Onkyo TX-17 - Trouble Tuning and Station Memory

Picked up a "pristine" no scratches, flawless looking Onkyo TX-17 from Goodwill for $10 recently. It honestly looked as though it's never been used.

Anyway, it seems to have trouble tuning FM and locking in stations as "tuned" and "stereo". It will indeed tune these local FM stations with relative clarity and to a listenable quality, just not with the FM stereo lights ON. I have been able to get them to turn on from time to time but it's a tricky and unscientific (I think) operation.

Also anyway ... once saved the unit will not remember them shortly later and reverts to 88.1.

It's a beautiful little unit and I wish it worked perfectly. Any ideas what's going on?

The memory is supposed to be preserved with a "super-capacitor", C714. That may need replacement. If it has leaked, it might have caused some corrosion of the circuit board, but with any luck it can just be cleaned up.

It's harder to guess at the cause of the reception problems, but if it was on my workbench, I'd start by doing a routine alignment of the FM section.

Hope this helps a little,
