ONKYO TX 2500 mk2 Help

Wondering if someone can help me!

I got my hands on a beautiful vintage Onkyo stereo receiver and it all works great except for in the phono section the left channel is coming through quieter then the right. It's also a tiny bit distorted sounding. I have double checked my source and also my speakers and I am 100% sure it is the receiver doing this.

Wondering if anyone has ran into this and if it may be a simple fix? or something that would warrant me bringing it into a shop.

also let me know if you have any experience with these receivers! I've been blown away by how it sounds! can't wait to get the phono section working.

I have had all the TX-x500 MKII models ( and I still have the 4500MKII) and all of them had slight issues with dirty push button switches. Try getting some DeOxit into all the push switches and work them in and out 50 to 100 times. It seemed as though the trouble was almost always caused by a tape loop button no matter what input was selected. Because of the design all the inputs eventually have to pass through the tape loops.

In your case, set the volume pretty low, select the phono input, then proceed to push the various push buttons in-out until the sound clears up. If that is not the problem you'll have to dig a bit deeper.
