I got a TX-2500 mki and I’m using the tape input to plug in my iPhone. I realized that when I press tape one or tape two buttons, the audio from whatever is selected on the selector knob (phono, fm or am) is still playing but very very softly. I can even hear it during soft passages of music underneath. Any ideas what the issue is?

common crosstalk found in some units. could be dirty connections in the switches so a nice cleaning might help. Other than that, tune to a non-station with muting on and the fm should go silent. Or use an empty source selection. Phono not playing since this unit doesn't have an AUX input.

Phono works with no crosstalk. everything else works perfectly so I’m guessing this is nothing to really worry about as long as it’s not a sign of a larger problem. Relief to know it’s not a big deal.
I’d try cleaning all those buttons, switches & pots. Might do the trick for you.

Some designs you get cross talk. Some did a good job minimizing it. The ones that bleed the tuner across on the tape monitor get in the habit of switching to aux or phono where there is no source coming in. Can get irritating playing a cd or such and in the quiet sections can hear the radio in the background.
Just did some work on a TX-2500 I gifted to a friend a few years ago that was dropping a channel. Spent the last week or so running it to see if it would drop a channel again behaved itself. I don't remember having a problem with FM noticeably bleeding across to the tape monitor on it. Since it has no AUX was feeding my mp3 source through the tape monitor. I had touched up a few questionable solder joints at the function control and gave the pots and switches a good cleaning to hopefully remove the cause of the channel drop. Behaved

That’s the one! Yeah, I’ve just been careful to switch it to phono with the turntable off and there’s no crosstalk now.
