Onkyo TX-35???

I have never heard of this one before. Someone grabbed it at a yard sale for me at a $20 gamble. All I know is that it is early 80s and is 45 WPC. Anyone have/had one of these? What are you thoughts? It looks cool enough, quite a lot of buttons for my taste, more of a knob guy, but it screams 80s.

I attached a photo of the unit in question. I want to say I have seen a TX-26 before, but not a 35.


It is sadly missing the exterior part of the Phono button though. No clue where I could find one of those, such an odd part to need. I wish I knew. This will probably be my new speaker tester/beater unit.

Yeah, I hate how quickly those things wear out. It seems pretty hefty weighing in at 16 lbs (considering all the plastic).

Ah, thanks for the response. I was beginning to wonder if this was from the days when Onkyo didn't amount to anything. I reckon to expect a good sounding budget model with decent build quality. We bought a new Onkyo HDMI receiver for <500 and it's very solid, and that's why I figured there was no harm in getting this. Totally 80s.

I picked up a TX-26 w 38 W/channel for my home office and love it. Good built quality. Intuitive, colorful front panel. And sounds great -- I can keep the treble and bass controls at center/midpoint and get the sound I like -- something that's never happened with other receivers I've owned. This is my first experience with Onkyo anything and I'm somewhat impressed. It's a keeper.

And I've since acquired an Onkyo TX-910 with 45 w/channel built from 1993 to 1995. Not a big fan of '90s audio gear (or audio/video gear). But I enjoy this Onkyo, as I do the TX-26. The bass is as punchy and clean as l've ever heard from a receiver -- and that goes for the bass guitars, bass drums, and tom-toms.

The TX integra series are very respected. My TX-65 is a powerhouse and was my bedroom system for many years until I got my Sansui Model Eight.

In college I worked for a retailer that sold Onkyo Integra (1983-1988). We had tremendous success with that line of receivers. If a friend/relative with middle of the road budget came in to see me, I made sure they left with a TX 35/65/85. Great build quality and bang for the buck. I can't remember anyone having problems with an Integra receiver.

So, WAS the Onkyo TX-26 actually part of Onkyo's Integra line? Mine is out of rotation now, but I don't remember seeing any "Integra" identifiers on it. However, I have heard a few people call the TX-26 an "Integra." I like the TX-26 just fine, but doesn't quite look and feel like a TOTL piece.
