Onkyo TX-NR709 Main OUT HDMI Repair (Got Sound, No Picture)

I have a TX-SR705 that had started acting up recently (made chirping noises through the speakers after it got warm). I added a 12V PC fan on top of the case, blowing on the HDMI board, and set to turn on with the switched outlet in the back. Seems to be working fine.

So where do you tap in to get 12v from on a board? I really know nothing about this. Do you have to use a DMM to find 12v?

I used a separate power supply plugged into the outlet. My receiver also has a 12V trigger out, but I believe it's only for zone 2. Yours may differ.

Do 12v triggers send constant power, or just a zap to initiate the power cycles?
If I use too much more separate anything electronics related in this room, my wife will :whip:
:whip:in a good way or a bad way? :naughty:

AC Infinity also sells fans powered off a USB port, so no electrical magic neccessary:

looks like your receiver doesn't have a USB port in the back, so you would have to run it off the front, unless you have another device's USB port that could send power to one of those fans. those component Aircom fans really sorta blend in with the device their sitting on, imo.

Should be constant power. Think of it as activating a relay in a remote component. As long as the relay coil is energized, the component stays on, but once the trigger is shut off, the coil loses power and the component shuts off.

I think a 50W GU10 halogen bulb will do it, if you have a lamp that takes that sort of bulb. That's the bulb I mentioned earlier that burned the wood.
