When they took down the old sugar silos at the Spreckles sugar plant in nearby Manteca, they decided to blow them up the same way. It was a big public relations deal since the property was going to be developed into a huge business park. They had the time set, and several of the local news helicopters were there for the filming. The mayor and a bunch of dignitaries were there, and they had even put on a raffle (for charity) to throw the switch to set off the charges. A friend of ours had a business nearby, so we went to watch the spectacle.
They had the countdown, the dude flipped the switch, there was a boom or two, and a few chunks blew out the side. The silos still stood. Seems they mixed a little better concrete back in the good old days.
The best laid plans.................
