Opinions on My Current Setup and Foray into Vintage Audio Geari

I would say not to overlook Realistic speakers. Some, like the Nova 6 on the smaller side and some, like the Nova 7Bs on the bigger are easily able to stay with the classic names of the late 60 and 70s. I know since I also own rebuilt and recapped units like the Advent Loudspeaker (now known as the OLA), KLH 6s with the woofers rebuilt with modern foam and probably my favorite, Marantz Imperial 6. The easiest to find and repair if needed are probably the Advents. It is hard to go wrong with any of the early Advents. My Nova 7Bs have incredible bass for their rather small cabinet.....I could easily live with them only.

The larger HPM 6O, 1OO and 2OO should be right up your alley but they can get pricey.

I have to admit, I have been interested in the HPM 100s. I've read so many positive reviews, especially by people who play a lot of rock and metal. They do seem to be pretty pricey though; I don't think I've seen a single pair being sold for less than $500. Just out of curiosity, are they worth all the hype I've been noticing around these speakers?

People who like those speakers really love them. I listen to a lot of jazz and classical, and I like the warmer "East Coast Sound". So for me, the HPM 40's sounded kind of shrill with the supertweeters. However, being the smallest of the series, mine were also kind of bass-shy. I'd say the balance would be much better with the larger models. I'd suggest you do a search of AK for HPM speakers and see what people have said.

No, they are collector’s items at this point. I have owned HPM’s, and I would kick my own ass if I ended up paying 500-1000 for a pair.

IMO/E, if you like the sound of the original JBL L-100's you'll like the sound of any of the HPM series.
