If you don't need Blu. Plays through the watermark on a burned DVD-A. Plays SACDR. If you get it don't flash the firmware unless you have to for some reason as the newer builds have some great functionality removed.

And if you are buying it to play burned DVD-A/SACDR, take an example of each with you to test drive. It could be on the market because someone else unknowingly flashed the firmware.

I had the 980 for years before finding a great deal on a lightly used BDP-83.
