Oracle Delphi MK ?

ARJohn

Super Member
I came across an Oracle the other day , it has no power supply . I couldn't tell which version it was but it had the arm in the pic , strange looking one . I have read in the past the arm was the limiting factor on earlier models .The power supply can be had direct from Oracle for about $120 or so I see. Can any one shed light on the arm ? I can pick it up for about 4 bills as is but no way to check it out without the power supply . I am kinda interested though :scratch2:

That is a MK1 or a MK2

The power supply that they sell is Globe Tek Inc. P/N WD21550CCP-N Model GT-348-24-550. The one they sold me has a three prong plug. I was a bit miffed to discover that I have access to piles of similar power bricks at work, only difference is they have two prongs and are one part number off.

Hey Ruff , thanks for the reply . Does yours have that arm ? I seem to remember reading a review that was not very nice to that arm ? I worked in Montreal and we supplied some circuit boards to Oracle back when they started . The son in law of the owner of our company bought one of the early ones , we all hated him for it . But is a sexy beast that table and I am tempted , I could almost afford it but then all the upgrades to MK ?

That's a MK2 - I had a MK1 and it's a little different - the power switch on the 1 is a single round button on the side of the front pedestal. Another thing the MK2 had over the 1 (which you wouldn't see in that pic) is an adjustable counter weight that hung under the platter opposite the arm to balance the table so that it oscillates up/down instead of rocking unevenly. I believe the Mk2 was a significant upgrade from the MK1 but I never heard them directly compared.

Can't help with the arm, mine had a Grace 707.

Check this link to Oracle,s product hidtory

Actually it is either a MKI or MKII as both look the same other than the MKI has the adjustable counterweight hung to the bearing housing underneath the chassis..
MKII used a weight mounted to the subchassis under the platter so not seen..

I have had the MKI, MKII and MKIII..I currently own a MKII with upgrades to MKIV (which is very costly).I also have a Alexandrai MKII

I can't tell you what arm that is as it has a string and weight type anti-skate device but I will tell you 4 bills for that Oracle is a good deal despite no power supply..

The first Oracle was known as the Oracle AC....BTW excuse my spelling...sore finger

I do not have that arm, I have no idea as to what it is. My Oracle came armless but with an SME template cut board. I have since had a 3009 and V on it. If you do get a close look at the table check out the arm board. It might just be that it has a common enough cutout that it can be used on other arms, giving you other options without the hassle and cost of buying or cutting another board.

I have checked out a fair bit on the web and no mention of that arm ? I remember UHF panned the earlier Oracles due to the arm , although it does look to be pretty nice . Seems most folk chose another arm rather than that stock one ?

thats an origin live tonearm , a VERY,VERY,VERY nice arm! truly a world class arm, someone must have changed it before you got it. congrats, your score just got WAY better!

So the deal is done ! Will pick up Monday night as I am leaving for the weekend . Can get a pwr supply from Oracle for $85 or maybe source one from someone here who has been nice to offer an alternative solution :D

So a leap of faith but at least it's 5 minutes from my home to pick up and will be worth getting going . So will be a few weeks until I can get things sorted out with the pwr supply and all the fiddly adjustments etc , should be fun . thanks for all the info boys

Anyone other than me ever call you a lucky bastard :scratch2::D

Yeah , I just back in from a 1500km round trip weekend and while driving on the 401 at crazy speeds to stay with the herd I was hoping I did not get creamed by a semi or something as I would not be able to pick up that table tomorrow :D

Will see how lucky I am once I get it home , just hope it doesn't need a ton of cash thrown into it to spin some tunes . I think this is the only Canadian made table of any quality so will be cool , now a need a Classe DR amp to go with it :scratch2:

Well got it home . Was not the uber deal after all , I don't know what I thought when I saw it a week ago , was dim and I really didn't pay much thought to it until the guy called me later with an offer , plus my smashed table arrived in the mail !!!!!! So it is I think a MKI with the dreaded Oracle PL tonearm not the Origin arm :tears: I found that pic on the web and said yeah that's it but I must have been dreaming . So I think the arm is a unipivot , I have a Mayware and am not fond of it at all . But I did get the cart right , it is a V15 V with a Shure stylus . I gave it a clean until I could see a glint off the rock . the belt is toast , hard as a rock . So cleaned out the bearing well , they say no oil needed ? Just a thrust bearing . It spins a long time at least and I can't hear any grinding . So I hooked it up , gave it a good spin and dropped the needle . Music , so at least it works . I will try and source a belt locally for it so when the power supply arrives I can give it a go . The arm has the fishing line around the bearing cup Like the Mayware with a rod sticking out where there should be a weight that can move to adjust anti skate , but the weight is missing . Might try the Mayware weight when I get things going .
So not the deal I thought but it is a cool looking table .But I hate that arm !

Unipivot arms are fiddly. They require some patience and care, but once properly set up can reward you with a great sound. This is the impression I got upon hearing the Naim Aro and the Haddcock GH-228.

I have had no experience whatsoever with that arm. Can you tell us why you dislike it so much?

I have a mayware F4 on another table and it is a fiddly arm and is not the easiest arm to use or cue up, flopping around . I guess I am old school . but know I have to figure out what arm that is if I am to change carts on it . Plus will have to find instructions somewhere to take it apart and refill the cup with silicon etc etc . But it does have VTA adjustment , the knob on the inner post raises or lowers tonearm height . All I know is it says Oracle PL under the mounting post .

More searching on VE and I found out it is a Prelude tonearm , made by Oracle ?? Mixed reviews for sure but still need instructions on how to set it up and what protractor to use for cart install .

Oracle where kind enough to send me scans of the tonearm instructions , most of them anyway . Seems a few pages might be missing ? But I am now a bit more excited about that arm as it has a spring loaded end of play lift in it and I checked it out .It works ! Now a belt and the mail man to arrive with the pwr supply and will see if the motor works :scratch2:

Well good news , she lives again ! Plugged in the power and hit 33 , lights come on , very cool and even better the motor spins with no noise or spindle wabble I can see . the 45 switch doesn't work though , no big deal at the moment . If only I had ordered those belts sooner I could be giving it a spin right now. Really looking forward to hearing this up and running in the new year :D

Duhhhhh ! one switch is power , the other is speed select and they both work . I will hide now .
