Ouch...

Satch

Audiotinkerer
Went to the dentist yesterday for my annual check. For the last twentysometing years it went like this: 'Good morning, sit down, open your mouth, looking good, see you next year'. But my dentist retired so I have a new (in my eyes way too young...) dentist. It went like this: 'Good morning, sit down, open your mouth.... uh, oh. I wanna take some pics. Hmmm..... I'll write a letter for the surgeon to have all your wisdomteeth removed. Have a nice day.'

Now I've been in the army, been around the world, done a lot of crazy things and (almost) never gave it a second thought. But this scares the feces out of me. I know, I'm a coward...

Had mine removed along with another tooth (5 total) 2 yrs ago. Nothing to worry about. Twilight sleep for me as I have sleep apnea, next thing you know, a thump on the forehead and it's over. Perscribed pain killers, antibiotics and given guaze packs for the blood. It was a 30 minute proceedure with not alot of pain afterwords. Stiches were self disolving, just went back for a checkup to make sure no infection and healing properly.

Tell them you will only do it with N2O.. that's the only reason I like to go to the dentist.

Personally, if those teeth aren't bothering you, aren't causing problems, and aren't impacted, after all these years, it sounds like a money grab to me..

Hell yeah!! You nailed it! If a dentist don't or won't use gas, I go some where that does. Without it, it's just too barbaric.

They can't get a needle in my mouth without a little nitrous... I've been to too manny bad dentists.. most of them were military butch... er um dentists..

You get over the scared part when they tell you how much it will cost.

Here in central CA, four wisdom teeth = $3,000. And that was about 6 years ago.

dentists these days are worse than car salesman...seriously,i work in the car business,i recognize it when i see it...it's all about the "upsell",anything that can be done, will be sold to the customer....you want fabric protector,er i mean flouride with that cleaning? :) not that the end result is a ripoff, what they're selling you is really top shelf, first class dental care, not a car...and that's not all bad.but it does cost money and like getting every optional service/product in a car deal is not always necessary

as was said if you've had regular dental care and checkups, and those teeth are not bothering you or having other issues that need to be solved...there's no reason to take them out, except to keep the dentist's practice busy...get a second opinion or ask them to justify that procedure.what is the reason for it?what problem is this gonna solve?

Here is a tip: Don't watch the movie Marathon Man before you go to the dentist. :D
If he says the words, "Isn't it safe?" then run!

Thnx for heads up guys... :scratch2:

The problem is my dentist found cavities in two of the four wisdomteeth. So she (she's actually quite attractive, but I don't like people sticking things in my mouth...) adviced me to go to the hospital to have them al removed, since the other two will probably get worse as well.
The money doesn't concern me. Here in Holland everybody has to take a basic health insurance. This will probably be covered by the basic insurance, but since I took an extra insurance covering all dental costs I don't have to pay a dime. Well... I already paid an extra fee for the last 12 years...
Since she won't remove the teeth, she won get any money. It is not allowed for hospitals, doctors, dentists and whatever to pay each other money to direct patients from one place to another. So she's probably doing what she's think is best, but alas, I've already seen Marathon Man...

It's not too bad, if you need them out, do all of them at one time. No sense in going back to get the others out at a later date. Lots of meds, a bit of gas, and you'll snap out of the drug induced mind-state in no time.

Finding a great dentist is truly a life quest. After going through a list of insurance thieves, butchers, and used-car salesmen, I've found the best dentist we've ever had. The entire family adores her. She actually loves dentistry, she never pushes anything on you, and she's got the most gentle touch with the needle I've ever had.

She's perfect.

Hey Satch, maybe stopping by one of your famous "Coffee Shoppes", might help your recovery! :D

Just get tons of mashed potatoes, pudding, and ice cream and you should be ok. It was pretty hard to eat for the first couple days.

:worthless:

of hot dentists, that is

Is it just a bunch of dirty old men here  or are there that many hot female dentists working nowadays?

My dentist is very:
a)competent
b)hot
as well.
Naturally, I spend most of my time admiring her ultra-cool magnifiers with the LED lights - would be great for working on electronics!

Am I old, or what???????
:D:D:D

Well, the dice has been cast: next tuesday the first two will be removed. I could even stay to have them removed this afternoon, but I chickened out. Fortunately I was prepared, so I didn't make that big a' mess...
