Of these decks, I have had both the A77 and the AKAI GX-630DB, mine was DB instead of D. I have to tell you, the AKAI is absolutely beautiful, and made great recordings, and had no issues with reliability, very strong machine. Its still going strong today, and used as a primary machine. The A77 is nice sounding, but very primitive. You have no Pause, no way to use a timer with it...all controls are very slow acting...it got to be a pain is the butt. Outside of making good recordings, I hated its slowness is response. The AKAI recordings rivaled the Revox very close, and had feather type response from the transport. So, Id prefer the AKAI in real world use, for recording, etc....Ray
