P-Mount Cart Recommendations for Techncs SLJ2

Cool cause the Stock Variant of the AT90 Sounds good on Classical and Jazz recordings but quite Harsh with anything Rock music related. Particularly distorted sounds. It kinda gets jumbled at some points. But still sounds good at some points. Otherwise Jazz and Classical sound very good. maybe upgrading to the Diamond Stylus would help.
 
Not to be negative or anything but 6 pages for you to try a cart you already owned? Well, enjoy away! On the tracking thing you can exercise the arm several times with the cue up using the track select buttons. Watch for jerky movement.

You are comparing a conical stylus to a .003 x .007 elliptical. You'll (generally speaking here, because each record and system differs) get better sound and less record wear with ellipticals. As I noted, just give your new one a chance to wear in and it should notice the difference.

FWIW, I've never seen a study that stated conicals are better on record wear (or sound for that matter).
 
big advantage conicals have is that alignment gets much less critical. That might be where the "less record wear" thing comes from.

What are you hear for? I am experimenting. For your info I bought another cart since that day and installed it.

So I secretly ordered and have since installed the LPGEAR Carbon Fidelity CFT4PSE which I stumbled upon totally by accident just through related pages from carts other's have recommended. The carbon Cantilever and Diamond stylus together for 50 bucks have proven, thus far, to be a nice combo. Whereas the AT90 sounded harsh on a lot of higher pitched vocals and rock music, this one sounds balanced, much less off setting and centered and clearer and more smoothe.

I have thus far listened to records from Flock of seagulls, Johann Sebastian Bach, Bruce Cockburn and Def Leppard, all of which sounds very deep and nice through this cart.

I wanted to not mention it till I received installed and tried it. Perhaps next I will try the 100 dollar one everyone recommends but thus far I am very impressed with the sound quality of this Carbon fidelity Cart.

By the way, what I had mentioned earlier regarding Bent Stylus on the stock carts replacement needle, might not have been the result of belt tightening because the direction the needle was bent was the complete opposite direction one might think, if it was bent due to belt resistance one might assume that physics would force it to the right (when looking at it from above on the platter) but as it were, it was bent to the left, the opposite direction of play!

I am learning a lot through this discussion, I hope we can keep it going.
