A possibility. I suggest it because I had very good luck with the hyperelliptical stylus for the Technics p-mount bought years ago from that vendor.

That's a very good suggestion too. I really do like the sound of those Technics carts. I hadn't thought to look at LP Tunes.

I have one of those laying around somewhere, I need to find it, only used it once with an adapter on a normal TT it bounced too much so unscrewed and stored it away.
Is the LPgear one an upgrade in any way?

Same body. Different stylus. The Vivid Line stylus alone is $115 on LPGear, and is what makes the big difference in SQ.

Can't remember the price, but LP Gear sells a really nice vividline (line contact) for those c arts. Mine is really nice. Only complaint on it is I wish they offered a nude option on 'em too. There's a trick' here too: they list the VL as well as HE. From everything I have heard anyway, it's the same stylus (I could be wrong, so keep that in mind here too), except one is about $20 cheaper

Yep. It's a special carbon cantilever with what could be an original AT diamond (again, I can't verify that, but I think it's AT made. LP Gear has done that a couple times now (sell original AT stock). So basically, it could be the AT92E stylus but with a better cantilever (there is a distinct difference in sound between the two however, but not in a bad way at all).

The tonearm slide mechanism may need cleaned of old gummy grease and relubricated, and it may need a new belt for the tonearm mechanism (if it uses one).

Same thing as the replacement I told you about, but you get a new cart with it is all. But if you have that AT92E? Give that a shot again. I did a couple of masters with that 'cheap' cart! There used to be a nude version of it on that auction site for $66 + S&H too but they are probably long gone by now.
OR - I believe one of those new nude Swiss styli might be a pretty good option for you too!

The AT311EP combo is good at around $50-60 (based on the couple links here) - it's no longer produced but has a higher output voltage (5mV) than the newer AT varieties in the same form-factor. Good if you want to save some money now and upgrade the stylus to the vividline or even a shibata later on down the road.
The LPGear vividline cart/stylus combo I linked to uses a newer AT cart spec'd at 3mV. The carbon-fidelity version is spec'd at 2.5mV. It's the little things that add up. But make no mistake, these are small differences. The higher output ones generally have more volume and bass response, but not by a huge margin.
Finally, regarding the skipping issue, as was mentioned the shaft and worm gear mechanism likely needs a cleaning is all, and the belt may possibly need replacing. If so, this is what you're after (I'm sure they can be sourced elsewhere, but for the sake of simplicity I only looked on LPGear). https://www.lpgear.com/product/TSLJ02.html

Question is, whether that's actually the case or rather an illusion due to different spec styles. I.e., the 3.5 mV for the AT92E(CD) or the AT85EP might be simply due to being a 5 cm/s lateral/mono modulation spec - of which a stereo cartridge would merely "see" 5cm/s x (1/2^0.5) = ca. 3.5 cm/s due to "sensor orientation". Whereas the AT311EP might have been specified for 5 cm/s 45°/stereo modulation, so that its output level might look higher on paper, but could actually be just the same.
This 5 cm/s lateral/mono modulation spec style also is the reason, why for eample the Denon DL-110 and -160 have such a low output on paper (1.6 mV), but in reviews typically deliver quite a good bit more (ca. factor 2^0.5), as these will rather specify the output for 5 cm/s in 45°/stereo modulation.
