PA Speaker vs Home Speaker

Today I was considering a pair of Traynor PA speakers with 15" woofers and nice big horns. They looked like they might be better than most of what I've got. But you say that they would sound terrible in a home stereo setup. Too bad. They sure looked like something for the price. I guess I'll pass on them.
Why not go for a listen?

i have a set of kp-301 ii's that sound pretty damned good as a home stereo speaker.

Really nice!!

Any drawbacks?? I'm interested.

They sure look great.

The shop selling them deals with musical instruments, old and new. He said they'd be no good for home audio, not interested in my idea. So if I did decide to hear them hooked up to a stereo, I've gotta buy them first.

...Band goes on break and kicks on the CD player through their PA, it mostly sucks by comparison, in my experience...
Isn't that an old and standard soundman trick? Play a cassette through a cheap player when the band is not on, thence the live band sounds much better in comparison.

My brother is a musician who's played on stage 30 years. That's exactly what he's told me before!

Haven't heard that one for mega years. :thmbsp:

If the price is right. I'd sure as hell buy them and give them a try.. My main system in the livingroom is built completely around pro drivers.. My basement system is big pro JBL.s and my take it out and party system are really nice sounding pro.. Community speakers.. MVP15... 15" 2 way. big horns.. the kind you put on poles.. I was running them in my livingroom for about 6 months..

some pa speakers don't come alive until the neighbours are phoning the police .:D:music:

I'm gonna edit that, and say most... mostPA system are meant to play their best at fairly loud volumes.. .talking easily 100db and up is when they start to shine...

That is the one really big fallback about my Barzilays... At low volume, they sound good, but they don't have a lot of dynamics, and the bass is kinda thin, but once I get them to really good Rock and roll levels, they will blow your mind... fantastic bass, sound, and dynamics.. but your neighbors will be hearing it too when you to get to the sweet spot on the volume knob.

brought back memories there ... i was that man playing the tape walkman ... :D
blended right into the band it did ..

I have a bit of a sour taste with PA equipment - mostly from the kids who know no better and stack all this equipment in their room purely for the bragging rights afforded by the thousand-watt power outputs of Class D power amplifiers. And yep, it sounded like ass.

Just for grins, I got a laugh reading your comment and then seeing your avatar with the volume at 11....

:thmbsp: :D

Yes, my neighbors hate me. I'm 17, love it loud, and to top it off, I'm a bit of a bass junkie (although I'm slowly weaning myself off the addiction).

That said, loudness comes second. I don't care how loud it can go - if it can't sound sweet all the way up to full tilt, it's not for me.

There are some very good sounding PA speakers, but 70% of them sound like 500 cats sliding down a metal roof- instant listener fatigue/brain rejection.
