Panasonic RS-6800 Speaker Help?

Hello! I inherited my parent’s Panasonic RS-6800, but the speakers that they had are donezo. I’m having a hard time figuring out what kind of speakers I can get that work with this unit. Mainly using it to listen to records.

I’m an absolute novice, so any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Wow.
The last time I seen one of those units was 40 + years ago. My sister had one with a bronze faceplate. She had some of the larger Thrusters with a maybe 2" tweets and 8" woofers with a passive. I couldn't possibly remember the model numbers but they were bought as a set for a birthday IIRC.
Check your local Craigs or FB Marketplace for some inexpensive 6 1/2"-8" 2ways in 8 ohm, something efficient.
I'm sure others will chime in with brand specific speakers.
 
Looks like you have speakers hooked to the left outputs for both
A and B channels. Unhook the speakers on B channel and hook them
to the right output of channel A.
 
Welcome to AK. What kind of budget are you trying to stay in? Are you wanting new, or older? As stated, something very efficient will be good, 90db would be a great place to start. There is a warning of only 8ohm speakers. I would go for 2 speakers, though you can hook up more.

Thank you! I don't have a preference really for newer or older, aesthetically I'd like to keep a vintage look. Budget is flexible, nothing more than $500-600 probably. I just want to be sure I'm buying something that works haha. The current speakers are floor-standing thumpers but they're in bad condition.

Yeah, they're hooked up that way because I was exploring all the channels to figure out if it was the speakers that weren't working or some fault in the unit. I think I've tried every configuration there is haha. Thanks!
 
Maybe, for 500 to 600$ you ( surely ) could buy a ( more ) decent vintage amplifier and decent vintage speakers.

Think of Sansui 441 / 551/ 661 and a pair of Dynaco's A25 or some EPI 100.

I do not see a turntable on your pics.. You say you want to listen to records... ?

A nice Pionner tt would fit the bill.

Now, to find these, you need to scroll the ads on Kij or MarketPlace and to visit thrifts and garage sales.

And maybe there is a sentimental value for the Panasonic... this, I do not know.
If not, search for a nice vintage combo.
I would not pair 500$ speakers with this '' all in one '' stereo.

Great feedback! There's for sure some sentimental value just because it's been with me all my life and I have memories of listening to records on it growing up. I have a record player that works fine with it. But maybe sentimentality be damned and I just need a new setup! Something to think about.
 
That combination receiver (so-called because of the 8 track built-in) is no ground-breaker, but not half bad. It produces fifteen or so watts per channel. If working properly, it will give you upper-mid-fi sound from a good pair of efficient speakers. I'd prefer the EPi's over the Dynas, efficiency-wise.

Can you verify everything is working on the stereo? Those things do last forever but may need to be gone thru. A tech could do it, but it will cost some monies. But if the record player works, and the AM/FM work, you are good to start. Many options on the used market where you will not need to spend anything near that amount of money to start. Vintage speakers may need to have some work done to work properly. But there are many people who refurb them, so look for some that have been worked on. Some I have used, Boston Acoustic A60 Series II were nice and inexpensive. Realistic Minimus series are nice. The 7's are tiny but sound great and I see those pretty cheap. Bookshelf type speakers is where I would lean. Nothing wrong with floor standing speakers, but are easier to place. Polk audio had some nice speakers to consider too.

Thank you for the recommendations!! It does work fine, I took it took a guy in town with an audio shop and he checked it all out. Replaced a blown fuse but everything else was good. I was looking at new bookshelf speakers but everything passive still seems to have coax instead of plain old speaker wire. (Did I use those terms right? Haha) I'll start hunting for those you've mentioned. Maybe even the guy at the shop can help me source.

You remember correctly!!!

The OP's unit was marketed and sold with a pair of Panasonic Thrusters SB-1800's
