Panasonic RS-6800 Speaker Help?

Thank you for the recommendations!! It does work fine, I took it took a guy in town with an audio shop and he checked it all out. Replaced a blown fuse but everything else was good. I was looking at new bookshelf speakers but everything passive still seems to have coax instead of plain old speaker wire. (Did I use those terms right? Haha) I'll start hunting for those you've mentioned. Maybe even the guy at the shop can help me source.
Yeah, you should be able to find standard speakers with connections. Stay away from powered speakers, which seem to be growing on the marketplace. The guy that looked over the unit would be a great place to start.

To the OP.
So the matching speakers are DONE ? As in non operating period or rotted foams ? Physically wrecked cabinets/drivers? Dead tweeters too boot ?
Not to stir the pot but perhaps saving those ( if feasible and economically viable) would be cool to keep them memories alive ?
YES you would be better off sonically with something of better build quality no doubt.
Just saying.

There's for sure some sentimental value just because it's been with me all my life and I have memories of listening to records on it growing up. I have a record player that works fine with it. But maybe sentimentality be damned and I just need a new setup! Something to think about.
It's a very cool receiver. We had a Panasonic receiver with built-in 8-Track, my mother sold it in a yard sale....:( wish I still had it.

I wouldn't spend too much on speakers, you can get a nice vintage pair on the used market for anywhere from $100 to $300. Check FB Marketplace, Craigslist or Ebay (local listing only).

Some popular brands from the 1970's & 1980's that are still reasonably priced:

AR (Acoustic Research)
Advent
B&O (Beovox)
Cerwin Vega
Dynaco
Epicure
Fisher (XP series)
Genesis
Infinity
Jamo
JBL (smaller models)
Jensen
KLH
Ohm
Polk
Wharfedale

and many more
