Panasonic SA6800X won't turn off

Just picked this beast up today - sounds excellent I must say. At least everything does but the radio, which is one of the things I need it for. And it won't turn off. Which is the first place to start...
Never having used this model before, does anyone have any experience with this switching mechanism before I start pulling things off to get in there? The switch depresses but does not catch, pops right back out - is it supposed to catch? Just so I can exlude any basic stuff...

I get zero from the tuner - I sprayed out the FM mute and other tuner related switches but alas, all is quiet on the dial, no movement on any vu's. Any good place to start?

Didn't look it up, but if it is a mechanical switch, which it should be from your description - that it won't stay in - most likely someone jumped it out because they could not get a replacement.

Many of those power switches, once you undress them, that is to get the manufacturer's mounting and whatever else off of them, are standard parts. But some of course are not.

The tuner, is it digital, mechanical or what ? What do you get when you switch to tuner, noise ? Nothing ? Anything light up ? Tuning meters or display, whatever it has.
 
The tuner is mechanical and there is no noise, fm static, & zero sound. The lamps are always on for the tuner section, hopefully replacing the 2 lamps that are out on the left side (the vu's) today if I can locally source them, which will help to better see if there is any signal coming to the antenna. Here's a stock photo of the unit.

Having pulled this switch, I am having trouble finding any info on it : PW123-1-2 TV3 "Snap Switch F-539".
What are my odds that I can find another? The internets have nothing. Is there a forum on audiokarma that sells/trades parts?
Or maybe recs on dealers deep with parts?
 
There's a cap across that switch that might be shorted causing it not to turn off, and alot easier to get.

No FM is often caused by the failure of a 12 volt regulator, or connections thereto.Not all the time, but the first thing to check.

Not all receivers turn off the dial lights when switched to external inputs so that might be normal.

Model number ?
 
As mentioned, the power switch could be broken and the previous owner could have used a power strip to turn it on & off.

PS, I hope you don't mean the "big cap" as in the power supply capacitor. JURB was referring to a small capacitor which would normally be soldered across the power switch, at the switch itself.
 
I am going to dismantle the switch tonight and see if there is any obvious mechanical failures. I don't know why I said big cap - surprise? Who knows....
