I am confident to say that these are the best speakers I've owned thus far. The two 8 inch woofers deliver startling bass to the point that I am constantly checking my integrated amp to see if the bass knob has been turned up or if the loudness button is pushed in.
I couldn't wait to hook these up to my Carver CM 1090 integrated amp. These are the first 4 ohm speakers I've had, and I was happy to see that the Carver would be able to handle 4 ohm loads. These speakers really handle all types of music rather well.
I started off with Enya's "Only Time" and even caught my girlfriend's attention. She normally rolls her eyes every time I bring a new set of speakers into the house. After setting them up and playing the song, she sat up and listened and said "Wow!" and agreed these are the best speakers I've had yet. She actually has a very good ear for good sound, but denies it every time I tell her.
I then played some 80's synthpop, followed by some Spyro Gyra and some Mannheim Steamroller. I always use their 1984 Christmas album to test any new speakers I acquire. And how could I forget the Alan Parsons Project. Excellent recordings and excellent music.
These speakers can do it all and can handle quite a bit of power. Even with the Carver's magnetic field coil, which has the tendency to brighten recordings, the highs are not shrill and the midrange not overly forward.
I live in Canada, but never really paid much attention to Canadian made speakers. I was always partial to British speakers, especially B&W. Give the old 9se's a go and you will be delighted.
