hi all, am I gaining more sound quality by pairing this CD player with the DAC or better just leaving the player alone?

Thanks!

They have identical DAC's (PCM67) so I think the CD will sound better due to the fact that the digital signal will reach the DAC with less conversions (avoiding the potential jitter-inducing SPDIF connection).
BTW, PCM67 is one of the first chips from BB (now TI) to use a mixed R-2R (multibit, 10 bit) with delta-sigma (1 bit).
Performance wise... they are not so great, the R-2R part wasn't very good (THD+N only -86dB).

Thanks,

by the way there is kit on eBay to convert the Parasound DAC-800 to fully 24bit/96kHz compatible after the upgrade.

From the listing:
"By replacing the the old YM3623 SPDIF receiver and DF1700 digital filter with the latest, 24/94 compatible CS8414 and DF1704 respectively your DAC becomes absolutely top notch and will run circles around the latest 1Bit Delta-Sigma low cost offerings. The upgrade offers not only the latest specs but also huge improvement in sound quality"

Is this recommended? Not sure what is the improvement...

Well that would matter only if you had any HD audio files to listen to - like 24bit/96kHz downloads from HDTracks.
However, since you don't have the PCM63 (true multibit) DAC, the price and effort to upgrade might not be warranted. After all a very decent Schiit Modi Uber (latest generation of delta-sigma) is only $149.

Actually that chip had legendary groundbreaking performance. I have one and it still performs above it’s weight class! Recently did an A to B comparison with a Rega Planet 2000. Parasound easily won.
