Peerless "looking" tweeter what is it really?

I would post the real picture but I can't copy and paste it. The back of the tweeter is marked FADE75-51C the date code appears to be 8317. It was made in Taiwan. It looks just like the Peerless soft dome tweeter shown in the attached. Do you think it is a Peerless or were there knock off's being made back then too?

Okay so I had some coffee and figured out how to paste the picture. So the front looks like the previous picture and the back looks like this. Is it a Peerless or a clone?

I don't know, but someone else asked the same question back in 2002, according to Google. Not much response then, either. A current check of eBay shows a similar looking tweeter listed as a 'Peerless copy'. If I had to guess, I'd say it was a copy and not a genuine Peerless, but I am no expert.

Made in Taiwan is a yellow flag but not being an expert myself on Peerless products and their points of manf. I thought maybe it's possible they did some manf. in Taiwan back in 83. If it were a new tweeter I'd say it would be very questionable but being from 1983, I thought maybe it's a good thing or maybe not.

Possibly,as I wrote I'm not sure about this replacement.
But what I know for a fact is that the KO10DT number actually had disappeared in the 1988 Peerless catalog that I have and was renamed 115DT26/72.

As I recall all the Peerless KO10DT tweeters I've seen over the years had a type of doping on the diaphragm. My Infinity Monitor Jr had it and so did the Polk Monitor series speakers that used this tweeter.

I just thought of something, if the date code is in fact 8317 (1983, 17th week) would there have been clones at that time? I would have thought that there would have been plenty of the real thing out there available. BTW, it supposedly came out of a DLK speaker. I do know DLK did use Peerless tweeters in some of their speakers because I have some.

I am posting in this old thread because it might be helpful, and also in case anybody can help me. The tweeters that you have, Lux Man, are exactly the same that I have in my DLK 1 1/2 (Third generation): FADE75-51C 4 Ohm, made in Taiwan, 8317. So yours should be legit and not a knockoff. A person from Michigan sold the DLKs to me through Craiglist and I received them yesterday via FedEx. I plugged them in and discovered that the tweeters don't work. I assume he won't return part of the money or anything... I called him and he said they were perfectly fine when he shipped them.

They have dome tweeters, I think that they are Peerless (see pictures attached). The info I have found online about it is this (https://www.midwestspeakerrepair.co...rs/dome/mw-audio-mt-4115-1-inch-dome-tweeter/), and the copy of the originals dome tweeters are sold here (https://www.midwestspeakerrepair.co...rs/dome/mw-audio-mt-4115-1-inch-dome-tweeter/).

I am wondering if anybody has any suggestions, should I get the knockoffs? Are they any good?

I am so disappointed...

My understanding is the Peerless version has a dimple on the dome. The copies / knockoffs don’t have the dimple.

The Peerless ones I have seen all had doping on the dome (usually with some fuzz and bits and pieces stuck to it), and the leads to the tweeter were copper and had a curve/loop sticking up before they went into the dome. Often they corroded, but sometimes you could save them by soldering the ends together.
I'm baffled by what looks like some sort of spray pattern on the front plate, with a square to cover the dome area and legs going out in four directions so that the leads are covered, regardless of orientation.

I have not noticed about the spray paint, but you are totally right! Regarding the square to cover the dome area, legs, etc. I thought that was the standard for the Peerless Dome Tweeters. You can find several examples on eBay.
By the way, do you think that this pair would replace the non functioning tweeters in my DLKs? They are 4 Ohms too. Any other tweeters that you suggest?

Thank you very much!

I suspect they would be just fine. Don't know if the Peerless ever had ferrofluid or if there were modifications for specific speaker makers, but if there were any changes, they'd probably be less consequential than using a look alike from another driver manufacturer.
