Pentagram speakers - What have I got here?

Generaly passive radiators don't do well in a up or down firing mounting situation (gravity takes it's toll).
Those look stout as hell........

Wow, the stands look great; I'm assuming they were OEM? Looks like something I could knock together. Like the light-colored veneer also. Yes, when you have time I'd love more detailed info on the stands. Thanks a million.

So, anybody feel free to chime in here...One more quick question...

I'd be surprised if I could ever find a match to the original, missing passive radiators.

In the meantime, couldn't I get a pair of average 15" woofers and put them in place, just not hook them up? Certainly it wouldn't sound the same as the original, but better than nothing, no?
 
You can buy purpose-built PR's from PE with provisions for adding mass to tune them. If you knew the mass of the original diaphragm, I think you'd be golden.

If you want to use a woofer as a PR, you'll have to remove the magnet and plug the inside of the voice coil to make it airtight. You'll also have to fashion some way of adding weight to tune it - this can a simple as gluing washers to the back of the coil former.
 
You could also do something as simple as gluing as 15" surround directly into the mounting hole and cut and glue a cardboard or styrofoam disc to fit the ID of the surround.

As long you're talking about woofers that you just happen to have lying around, then by all means.
 
Member, analog addict, collect pics of speakers like your woofers with bad foam repair jobs. Maybe you could post a pic of that woofer repair job, please.

They look like quality units to me, but are definitely a new one on me. I'll be interested to hear a review.

No, but the openings on the bottom for passive radiators are 15". Someone at Audiogon who replied to my post about these speakers referred to a 15" downward-firing passive radiator.

In AUDIO AED 1984 there is a large 1/3 size add from Pentagram Inc. on page 198. The company's Pentagram logo is NOT upside down and there are two cool looking speakers (P-10 and P-8) and quite a bit of print info. The address is Bayside NY of all places. Bayside, you devil you..............
