You need to talk to Klaus over on the VinylEngine. He helped me get my PE 3060 going. You can also download the service manual if you need.
 
Soundguy: Though Dual bought PE, the two lines are different enough, both cosmetically and functionally, that I would be very surprised if many parts were interchangeable. You probably could mount a Dual arm if you only wanted a manual player, or you might even be able to adapt it to the PE mechanism, but by the time you were done, you could have rebuilt the donor Dual. You may have to bide your time and look for a donor PE, or alternately, a PE that is usable as is.

I can't find a whole lot of info on the model and wondering if anyone has experience with the 2040. I've seen pics of the standard model, but this one is wider with a sliding drawer for storing adapters, cartridges, discwasher, etc.

Surprisingly, it sounds very good, although the automatic functions don't always work well. I've been using it as a manual turntable, until I get this serviced.

I have a 2038 that I purchased for the manual spindle for my 2040. Service manual is available at HiFi Engine. There is one major discrepancy in both the 2038 and the 2040 manual (appear to be identical) in that they refer to a cable type cuing mechanism that is not used in either iteration. The ones I have use rigid linkage. I bought a new 2040 back in the early 70's and can't say for sure what type it had. Great aesthetics and tone arm. I've read that people are overwhelmed by it's complexity, but I think anyone who has had much experience with fully automatic turntables would agree they're not as bad as some. Most problems (all problems) I've had is hardened grease and mis-adjustments made by people over the years. Great tonearm! Actually the dual 1200 series were my biggest headache, aside from Roberts and early Akai reel to reels. I do like that cabinet, I have never seen one before.

Doesn't say 6% + or -, but a brochure that I have says...
"... the pitch (speed) control knob allows platter speed to be fine tuned 3% faster or slower - permitting a 6% maximum adjustment in speed."

One would have to assume they were referring to a 6% overall adjustment. Hence the plus and minus designation printed on the turntable
 
I am pretty new to this form I own a PE-2020 and I have a chance to buy a PE 2040 I'm looking for a dust cover for my 2020 will the 2040 dust cover fit on my 2020 can't seem to find Dimensions right now any help would be appreciated I know I'm jumping in on old thread so hopefully someone will see it and maybe help me out thanks again
 
Vinyl Engine very well may have both manuals in their library and they probably include the dimensions.
I suspect that the 2040 is a better machine than the 2020, so it might make sense to simply use it.
Punctuation and capital letters would make your post easier to read.

There were a couple of different bases made which would fit either turntable. The dustcovers were made to fit the base, not the turntable.
So you need to confirm that they both have the same base for the dustcover to fit.
 
Thanks Jimbofish. So many different variations. I am new to this turntable stuff. I am very appreciative of all the information that everybody has given on these forums. As we speak I'm trying to get in touch with the fellow that has that 2040. It's for sale for parts only. Looks pretty rough although the dust cover looks better than the one I have. I'm hoping it's the same size. I will update when I can thanks again.
 
PEs are nice tables. They use an unusual mechanism (the ones before Dual bought them) so some repair people don't want to work on them. Which might be why it is listed as a parts table.
But if you are handy, you can probably figure it out.
 
Hi everyone I have an update. So I purchase the 2040 parts only turntable. The base is much smaller than my 2020. The cover is made differently than the cover for the 2020. Surprisingly enough it fits my 2020. The 2040 cover flares out at the bottom and goes over my base on the 2020. Not like the original but way better condition. I'm going to use it. I'll keep the original. Also found out that this turntable was from the original owner. Just might be able to resurrect it stay tuned.

The PE 2040 service manual is in the AK Digital Docs. It might come in handy as you attempt the resurrection. Best of luck with it!
