Its more than that, Phil was a crazy person that always carried a loaded gun everywhere he went and put that loaded gun against people’s heads when he became furious. But because it was Phil Spector, no one reported his behavior to the police. It’s common knowledge that Phil held a gun to many people’s heads in the recording studio during a recording session. Then for some reason, society needs to hold crazy people accountable for what they do the same way as they do a sane person. Because if it’s normal to put crazy people in prison, there is little understanding or regard for the mentally insane. So it’s just another situation about another person that didn’t get the help they needed due to social stigmas. Because he is not a bad person for what he did....because he was an ignored person.
Crazy people do horrible and wonderful on equal terms and just as intensely.....it’s how you identify an autistic person. So Phil was just another autistic savant with a severe behavioral disorder that received no justice.

Many will not agree but I always hated the crowded sounds of his productions yet, oddly, when I heard the Beatles Let It Be Naked album, where both mixes were included, I like his version (the original one we all know) much better..it did reveal some of his skills...

I personally despise his work. He had an insanely stupid philosophy on recording, and he vehemently opposed multichannel audio. His "wall of noise" style was obsolete by 1970 when stereo was well established. His style reminds me of some video game graphics fads that, when new, get abused beyond all reason. For instance, haze/fog effects, lense flare and aberrations. Not a good sound by the 70's. He opposed stereo because he wanted to position his cacophonous wall of noise as the definition of spaciousness and consolidate much of what a stereo does into the hands of the producer. If he hadn't managed to produce some very popular albums, I don't think he would have become highly thought of. Brian Wilson worshipped the guy's production technique, but that guy was half deaf and couldn't hear the difference between a stereo and mono recording.

I think that some of the sounds that he got int he studio were unique an interesting, but nothing that I'm really that big a fan of. Still I can recognize that he influenced a lot of music that I like. There's a Brain Eno tune or two that seems to have the mark of Phil Spector. The Springsteen song "Born to Run," and likely that whole album bear Spector's mark as well, particularly that glockenspiel sound that's all over it (which I really dig!).
I'm thinking less though about my personal feelings about his contribution to music than I am about my ambivalence towards the idea of venerating someone, who had done really awful stuff...

Like many extremely talented people, it is unfortunate that Spector was also very flawed.
He revolutionised music and produced some wonderful music, which I am grateful for. I feel some of his latter productions weren't as successful. But I will always celebrate his masterpieces.
