As long as the advertising for this pre-amp clearly stated that there is no onboard phono pre-amp, I guess it's okay.I think it's a design choice
it makes sense if you want to experiment with different phono preamps but did not want to use an input labeled "aux"
To me, it's like having BASS and TREBLE knobs, but no tone stack in the unit. Saying, "Well, you need to buy an aftermarket tone section and insert it into the pre-amp. Then, the knobs will work."
