Phono preamp conundrum

So,I'm just starting out with phono preamp and I was looking at the Fosi x2s and x4s as I can get them for cheaper than online sales.
Looking at specs the differences I see is the S/N on the x2 is 98 and the x4 is 70 does this make a difference.
Also the x4 has separate bass and treble controls which I'm not sure I need.
Can someone steer me in the right direction.
I will upgrade eventually.
I'm using a Music Hall MMF 7.1 with a Mojo cart also a Project Debut 3 with an Ortofon 2m blue.

Stay away from that weird off-brand crap. If you need something cheap that's decent, look at an ART DJ Pre. They used to go for around $50 but might be a little more now. Check for discounts or something maybe.
 
If OP is trying to save a buck but find something competent without doubt, at the $100 (or so) level there are numerous options including the U-Turn Pluto 2, the Schiit Mani 2, several options from Pro-Ject, and if one is willing to look at ebay, there are more excellent used options than one can throw a stick at on any given day.
 
See the posts above for multiple good options under $200. I'll add the Cambridge Audio Alva Solo as well. Also, the Hagerman Bugle 3. Last, ifi Zen Phono.

That fossi thing looks like something nobody needs. It’s cute though.
I think you’d be much happier buying a new Schiit Mani for around $150. They’re OK for the price. A step up for $50-100 more would buy you a better sounding, more adjustable phono preamp. I happen to like the (pre-owned) Musical Surroundings Phonomena in that range. For around $350 shipped but probably out of price range - the Chinese ear834 clones. Not adjustable but really nice sounding. I think the 834 clone has kept me from wanting to upgrade for quite a while now.
 
$200 will get you the iFi Zen Phono. This thing is quiet. Really quiet, if you upgrade the power supply. MM/MC capable, not a lot of adjustments, 4 gain settings and a rumble filter. It doesn't really seem to have much of a sound signature of its own, it's really pretty neutral, and it's as close to 'not there' as you're likely to get for $200.
 
If you can build your own the EAR 834 clone, it is certainly the way to go and can be done in your price range….However if you could increase your budget as @MisterDK suggested the built EAR clone is a fantastic value, and could be upgraded later with premium caps and such if so desired.
I’ve built several and they are outstanding preamps when built with a separate power supply and premium parts :trebon:

Ok,great hearing everybody's take,not sure which until I really read up on a few of these,but I will be getting one of these mentioned....keep you updated as whichever one I get I will put on both the Music Hall and the Project,thanks again.
