What Users Are Affected By The Changes To Our 3rd Party Hosting Policies?

Moving forward, new and legacy free account users will NOT have third party
hosting available.

If you were a Plus Account subscriber in good standing as of June 1, 2017,
you will continue to have all the privileges you have enjoyed including 3rd
Party Hosting until December 31, 2018 as long as you maintain your
subscription.

Non Plus 500 Account subscribers that purchased after June 1, 2017 will not
have access to 3rd Party Hosting.

I'm sure this is the work around, don't copy the ULR

No **** we know that, but that doesn't do any good for all the thousands of past post that we illustrated. Like who is going to want to go back thru all the years of past photos in old threads and reload the pics. Now all the older threads with just have boxes that advertise for Photobucket.

I'm surprised how often I've run into this. So many threads have placeholders now. And they were great threads with very helpful pictures. Shame.

I'm going to relate this lesson to something else we recently discussed at AK. We had a thread about what we use to catalog our music collection. I said I use a simple MS Excel spreadsheet (and everyone prob laughed at me). I know many people preferred Discogs or other online hosting sites. My opinion, from working in IT for 22 years, is that companies come and go, get acquired, change their policies, and gouge customers when they can - it all adds a layer of uncertainty. So I look at any third party hosted tools and sites as ephemeral - might be here today, unsupported tomorrow, or even gone tomorrow. I know my simple spreadsheet will be safe (it's backed up too), it can be opened by multiple programs, and be exported to basic CSV.

The moral is if you want complete control, you must be in possession.

i never really got photobucket . all i saw there was adverts to sell my pics back from them when i had given for free . only used to host pics here . i still have the pics but will take some time to search url at photobucket on google then it comes up with the thread on here .

Well for the listening to music threads like you do and might post 4 a day, yeah that's a pain.

But for people wanting to get photos in their personal threads, they could clean it up.

Correct and even out of the computer that can self-destruct. When I do important photos as my art or family things I burn to a CD or stick and file it away. My taxes and things like that are in my computer but I also print hard copies. Nothing is permanent in the computer/internet world.

Hell you can even be banned from the site, so your thread that so important to you, you might not ever have access to it again.

"But for people wanting to get photos in their personal threads, they could clean it up."

I have waaay to many to do that, it would take days....LOL

LMAO, you have a total of 943 comments on the site, how many threads do you have? are they all important?
I know I have BS threads, and most my comments in threads are BS, but I have a few reference threads prior to me dragging and dropping, these are the ones to fix.

So again you can keep photos in PB and post them like I said and not copy the ULR and they will remain in the thread.

I tried to upload photos direct from my PC to AK last year and I seemed to have some trouble with it but don't remember what it was. It would be nice to do it that way because then I would have total control of my pics. I'm gonna try it again.
Man I spent a lot of time organizing and editing my pics on photobucks now that's all going to be gone. I do have the original images on my back up hard drive thankfully

keep them there if you want.
Now do this

Go to PB >enlarge thumbnail to the big image page >Right click mouse and select >open in new tab/window > Reduce your window so you can see your desktop > Left click the mouse and hold, then drag the image to the desktop and let go > Open the AK page and drag from the desktop the same way and let go in the comment box >pick thumbnail or full image > click the post button.

i have another way .i will wait until someone says i cant see the pics .. i know some wont know my plan but i have other things more important to deal with . suppose i could leave a note on the threads saying to ask for pics . if i could remember them all that is ..

Is there a way to replace the Photobucket links with pictures uploaded to AK? I'm not sure how to edit old posts or whether this is possible in the first place.

Once in a new tab it could be dragged to my desktop, and then draged to a comment box, and on this site you have the option to do a full image.

So maybe PB can only control the images that had their ULR copied and posted?

You are just talking about hosting on AK at that point, right?

Dragging the image from photobucket to your desktop is the same as downloading the image to your desktop. Dragging the image from your desktop to the comment box is the same as uploading it to AK. At that point it's hosted on AK and has nothing to do with photobucket anymore. This is verified by the URL of the example image, which is "http://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?attachments/963202/".

There is a way to find threads where you have posted pics currently hosted on PBukt.

Use google search and enter this string site:audiokarma.org {your user name} ".photobucket.com/"

This will find threads you have posted in that also have photos from PBukt, so it needs a little refinement. Go to a post where you have inserted a pic from PBukt and right-click on the image and select "properties", and you should see something like this:
http://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/h453/ghazzer/Pics for AK/C25markings-B.jpg
Look at several pics and you should be able to find something unique to your pics, like the //i1110." or the "/h453/" in my case. If you did not give the pic a title in PBukt you may see the name of the file that you uploaded (like XX1020304.jpg), and you may still have that file on your HDD, or an archive.

I am going thru my threads now to locate the info, and editing each post to add the file name or a description. All of my pics are archived to an external HDD, so I should be able to find them, reduce the size/resolution, and upload them direct to AK, and delete the reference to PBukt.

I'm going to let this one go.. Anyone who wants to see any picture I have posted need only to PM me or reply to the thread asking for such and I will do summersalts to make that happen! Otherwise I am too busy building a house to fix them all... :whip:Capture.JPG

Yep but not to your media files here, just the comment box.
