Picked up a Dual 1229. (Total fail. Now I have a 1219)

Been a while since I've seen any Dual in the wild. There was one 1229 on FBM. Been there for 5 weeks. So I pinged. Yes. Still have it. So I went to check it out. It had belonged to her father. Had been stored for a year. Checked it out. Had a Micro Acoustic 2002e cart. Cantilever and tip looked ok. Figured that was worth the cost. Going to need some work. Got it home. Sounded good. Give me something to work on these hot days.

Congrats on your 1229! I've got a beautiful 1219! As to the "pimple", there are quite a few on eBay, with each seller claiming theirs is the best! However, I really feel that this Canadian company has the best one around! Check it out HERE

Don't cheap out on a Steuerpimpel!

I have their idler wheel and platter bearing for my 1219, which are fantastic. I ordered the same for my 1218 that is completely disassembled and just waiting for me to find time to put it back together!

Also the strobe is out. I read if you turn the bulb it might help. Didn't help. Any thoughts?
 
I agree with @mfenberg regarding Audio Vault ... I use them to upgrade all my Duals. I have two more 1229s that I am about to restore and will upgrade the parts from them. Cannot go wrong with their steuerpimpel. Just my two cents...
 
Already have a pimple coming, ebay guy I've bought before. Anyone have a good place to get a strobe lamp?
 
Nice pickup on getting the 1229 ! I have one with 'SuperTrack Shure) cartridge, bought mine at an Estate sale about 10yrs. ago
for 50.00 USD. These TT sounds really nice, Enjoy !
 
The base is not in the best shape. I do have a custom homemade base that I got with another Dual some years ago, but I will have to have a cover made, original won't sit flat on it. Used to have a plastic fabricator here I used to use, but shut down during covid.

After checking the manual I saw how to adjust the arm lift height. But still drops too fast manually.
