picked up a Thorens TD-126 MKII last night

about 4 months ago I split the cost of a Stanton t.92 with my father cause we both wanted to check out vinyl but really didn't know what to expect so didn't want to get to invested in it. then i made an impulse buy on the SRV texas hurricane box set (45 rpm). I've been listing to his music since i can remeber my dad blasted it on his hk citation 21&22, JBL l100t for around 20 years till the woofers gave out. Well hearing it on vinyl was like hearing it for the first time I was abosultly blown away by the difference and knew at that moment this was going to cost me lol.

Did a lot of research, read lots of reveiws looked at modern/vintage the thing about the modern I don't like is the minimalistic designs they're to me, boring and plain which is fine if thats for you but i like the vintage look. I boiled down my options to a Technics SL-1200 and Thorens (at this point wasn't sure which). Found a Thorens TD-126 MKII locally and drove down to check it out. The owner of the unit got it from a family member and has had it for 12 years or so he said it was serviced about 3 years ago. he had the original user manual, tonearm wand case/alignment jig, extra Thorens replacement lamps, Signet TK-3EA cartridge, original elliptical stylus and Thorens horse hair dust arm. I'm a greenhorn when it comes to TT's so I asked him all the ins/outs of the unit and most importantly how to use it. I took a couple of records with me and after hearing it I was sold or it was sold which ever, same thing.

Congratulations! Yours is a fantastic TT! Mine was bought brand new in 1978 and it is the only piece of gear of my first system that I still own....

Thank you Have been listening to it for a solid 3hrs now the sound is incredible. I love the auto queing arm and unlike the other i can walk around without every little noise being transfered to it
 
Outstanding! There are number of AK members that have decades of hands on experience with Thorens turntables. Don't be afraid to ask.
 
Congrats, it's a GREAT table isn't it? I was an idler snob for a while but my TD126mkii proved me very wrong, its a super musical table and like you said it's pretty immune to footfalls which is a big plus with my kids running around. Have fun with it, I bet the SRV 45 sounds great!

So far so good its everything I was looking for in a TT which I wouldn't have known if it didn't start with a minum spec'd table, SRV btw sounds terrible :D
 
That’s an amazing turntable. Probably one that will last you the rest of your life if it is maintained. Congratulations, great choice/purchase! SRV couldn’t be played on much better - probably my favorite artist as well. I just wish I had had the chance to hear him live...
 
I have had my TD125 MK II since they were first introduced and it has worked perfectly for many years. A 126 is a step up with a better arm than the factory arm on the 125. I used SME arms at first. I wish you many continued hours turning into years of happiness.
