Pickering and Stanton Users and Collectors.

I purchased a JICO for my 681EEE and am very pleased with it. They offer a couple different tips to choose from.

I'll take a look at the Jico's. Might use the XV-15 stylus I have laying around for now. The LPGear HE is tempting, but I think @needlestein had issues with them due to the missing tie-wire.

@robbiesd Which Jico are you using?

Any suggestions where to get other stanton cartridge and stylus? Pickerings might be out of reach now.

I only have the Stanton 6800hp. Love this cart. A DJ cart that’s one of the better sounding mm cart and a regular on one of my tables.

Anyway to tell if it's conical or elliptical, or what tracking force to set it at? I don't have way to check if it's warn, so not sure I trust it.

Stereoneedles.com claims they have original 6800EL's in stock http://www.stereoneedles.com/Stanton.html I've bought some stuff from them before. Good when they have what they say, but I've run into issues with their site not being updated.

Turntable Needles has original D6800AL's in stock https://www.turntableneedles.com/Stanton-Disco-Duty-D6800AL-Stylus--Our-Needle-822-D7AL_p_3975.html They're a good dealer.

My preference with Stanton/Pickering is an original wherever possible. I know others feel differently, but I've yet to find an aftermarket (although I have not tried a Jico) that beats an original.

Anyone own an XSV-5000? I really want one, but on eBay they're $500 if you can even find one. Worth it?

I had a Pickering TL-4S p-mount cart and I really liked it; one of the best vintage carts I've used.

Any tips on centering the cartridge without the black plastic tabs? It always seems to want to go off-center right or left.

It didn't come with those, so it's just the metal sides. I'll try to find something to shim in between to avoid the hum. Broke my blue wire on the HS, can I use an extra red? I assume they are all the same, just color coated?

There is a tiny bit of hum with the metal hardware, which is odd since I didn't have it until I took it off to realign it. I'm really liking the sound of it a lot. Does the V-15 series styli fit the 681eee? How different are they from the XV-15 series? tvom of has some original pickering styli for it.

Edit: Not sure how much I like this XV-15 stylus. Like my luck with most aftermarket styli, the cantilever is off center and it's hard to align. Just bought a "Very high quality replacement made in Japan" off ebay. I'm guess JICO, hopefully. I'll try that out before going broke buying too much for it. Grabbed some nylon screws too, hopefully it should eliminate the hum like you suggested @needlestein

If your still getting a tiny bit of hum try this. Reverse the ground wires. I had a Stanton 681EE body that hummed and when i reversed the ground wires poof hum was gone.

I’m just getting into Stantons.

Did I get this right?

680 body + 680 cart = For Dance Floor
681 body + 681 cart = For Critical Listening

I have here a Pickering UV-15 with D2000-Q stylus assembly .
Stylus profile is listed as quadrahedral...for reading the groove in a quad record. And it works fine on stereo.

This one needs a new stylus assembly or perhaps a rebuild. I suspect the elastomer has gone hard. Although I don't have a microscope suitable for identifying stylus wear...which could also be a factor.

Just a pricing heads-up. The 4608-DQX styus at the Voice of Music has dropped fairly substantially, listed now for $57. I believe the last time that I checked, Gary was asking $88 or so. A nice hyper elliptical stylus that seems to get pretty positive reviews. Don't own one myself though. I lucked out when he was offering the 4608-DEV at an almost give away price and I picked up two.

While listed as a replacement for the D4500Q (Pickering XUV), this should sound nice in any Pickering or Stanton samarium-cobalt body.
