Pickering and Stanton Users and Collectors.

Hey guys, I picked up a Stanton 500 mkII cartridge and was wondering a bit about it. First off, I'm looking for a cartridge for my Technics SL-1900 that doesn't sound like the Shure M44E I have on there right now. Specifically, I don't like the treble, I find it harsh and attribute it to the 16khz peak on the cart. The Shure M75's I run don't share that harshness and have a flatter frequency response to 20khz.

Does the Stanton 500/Pickering V-15 have a similar peak in the frequency? If not, which stylus would be a good match for the SL-1900? Would the Stanton D71EE work with that arm or is it too much Mass for that stylus? I could also go with an EVG 4604-DET tracking at 2-3g. Any thoughts or budget recommendations appreciated. Thanks, Mike.
I can recommend the the EVG 604-DET. I have one and it sounds very good.

the d71ee i sometimes use , has less spike and more of a clear flat hifi sound, than a DJ sound. It works great on my SL1200 arm,. The lp gear D-ame-3 stylus is the best i have heard on a v15/stanton 500 if you want less dj,,,, and more hifi sound. On my MKII I use a pfanstiehl 4820de- for the stanton broadcasting sound that i really like at times, you may not like the potential sib on a 4820, but its a great sound.

I'm not familiar with the Stanton broadcasting sound, how would you describe it?

Congratulations! I wholly concur that it’s a nice stylus. I grabbed one, myself. I was tempted to get a second, but I’ve got too many other styli already that I’ll never wear out.

I bought one too. Good to know its a good one. I have something of a lack of good spare 680/XV15 styli.

similar to your shure M44e a very fast mid bass and lows. It really puts the music out strong to be heard. it may not me different enough from your Shure, that is based on the same idea as the stanton 4820de. i think the d71ee would be a nice change from the shure m44

https://www.lpgear.com/product/PICKSTE.html This is a new genuine pickering that is still avail at lp gear ,this is the equal to or better than the 71ee, a genuine pickering for $34.95 , this is what I have on my mkII, I think it sounds as good or better than a nagaoka mp110, vwestlife stylus has a nice sound also. you cant go wrong, best part is they are inexpensive to collect a few choices and snap in easy.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Good to hear that the Stanton 500 and Technics are a good match. Smooth and mellow sound is definitely what I'm after. :music:

yes,I've seen:
1to4g (white dj and blue d-dj)
2to4g (the blue one)
and also 2to5g?(the blue one)
1g seems to me very ligth,I put 2.5g on the stock arm of my lenco l75 which is quite heavy(23g).

Anyone know if this will fit my 890SA? It looks like the same stylus as mine.

A rare find??? Found an OEM D3000 for the XSV-3000. What make this unusual is that it has a white stylus grip and it's nude mounted. I thought it could be a mis-labeled stylus as all the pictures of the XSV-3000 show a black stylus grip, but see the picture below. I also posted pictures of the white vs. black stylus showing the nude diamond vs the bonded one.

White D3000. Clearly shows the nude diamond. The right picture clearly is a bonded diamond (black stylus grip).

Picture of the cartridge with a white stylus grip. Could be the earlier version of the cartridge.

Is there a difference? Hard to tell. The XSV3000 is a sweet sounding cartridge regardless of with stylus is used. I haven't come across any records that separate one from the other...yet.

What is a good conical to use with a 680/81. I would like to play a couple of records that have too much surface noise for my other carts. The records have been cleaned. Thanks

Picked up a Garrard Lab 80 the other day, and have started to use my Pickering/Stanton collection again. With my Dual 1019 and AR TX, I tend to prefer Shure, but my Lab 80's in the past have always sounded great teamed up with Pickerings(UK connection perhaps) so I started with my V15 Micro IV and a D IV AM stylus. Smooth and full bodied like I remembered. After a few lp's, switched out to a Stanton 6003 stylus. Lighter tracking weight, lighter sonics. But more detailed. A great stylus, and tracks nicely at about 1.7g. Later today I'll swap out head shells and try out my Stanton 680 cart with a Pickering D625E stylus that I picked up from Vickers when they still had some. I've enjoyed that combination in the past.
