Hi Chad,
I thought that I would post some pics here of the Kimball tone cabinet I mentioned to you in PM the other day. Might give you a better idea of what I'm dealing with.

Thanks, Ron

And if I haven't used up enough bandwidth... I believe I have identified the amps a Conn mono's.

Very nice. Almost looks like a Magnavox amp, but who knows. Can't wait to see the underside. The transformers are very beefy.

RC my wife is looking for a finders fee.:lmao:

Let her know that I appreciate her find and I would be glad to gift her with the giant 800 lb Conn organ itself. I really think it would look stunning in the living room M. :D

They are Magnavox 15's I do believe.

Holy CRAP, RC! How'd you get the beast(s?) home?! Or have you?

This was pretty much the wangle and finangle deal. In order to make it work I had to take everything or nothing. To not end up with the Conn in my living room entailed some creative thinking, a well placed phone call and a little luck. A 800 lb Conn organ just doesn't dissapear from a thrift and not end up in my garage without all of the above. The organ would be pretty cool but what I really only wanted was the tone cab and its contents.

The answer to your question is nope, I'ts not residing at casa RC.

Nice find! Those are absolutely Conn mono amplifiers using (and you can probably verify this quickly) a 48530 (OPT) and 48531 (power transformer) a pair of 6L6 (various forms including 6l6, 6L6G, and I have seen them with 6L6GCs), a 5U4 rectifier, 6J5 and a 6SN7. I might have the transformer numbers mixed up, btw...

It has a pure triode output (no ultralinear tap) and the power transformer, as mentioned is pretty beefy. I had a pair that now belong to squidward and currently have another set of three I have picked up since. I'm also bidding on a set of three on ebay currently but doubt I can afford them right now.

When rebuilt, I have heard of people preferring these to MC30s, but like almost every review, you have to take it with a grain of salt. I can tell you that the pair that are now in Ed's possession sounded very good in original condition, I'd love to hear what then can do with a fresh recap.

Good luck with them!

Oh, and to make a comparison, the iron on the Conn dwarfs the magnavox amps I have (8802 and 175) and frankly, I prefer the sound to either of the maggie amps. Further, the magnavox amps I consider very nice sounding amps that are well worth their asking price, so it's not a matter of me ripping on cheap console amps.

Hot dang, that sounds promising Dave! I just got word that the Organ (itself) removal from where it resides will go down tomorrow instead of next week. That means I can retrieve the tone cab and amps anytime afterward. Im not sure what to do with the cab and drivers yet but I will figure something out. Thanks for your input and good luck snagging the others. I hope it goes your way.

The Organ is now off to the new "owner" and that just leaves me with the tone cabinet to deal with. I stopped by and pulled the amplifiers so I could take them home and get a better look at them.

Last night I had me a dream, it was like a vision burnt across the sky. In the dream, I was told what to do with the open back tone cabinet and I must follow through lest I be struck down by the dream gods. In the dream, I was instructed to carefully remove the grill cloth so that it can be incorporated into other projects. Then install shelving and supports to turn this monster into a showcase for all unused vintage tube gear and new arrivals.

Sorry it's been a long hot day and my brain is a little fried.

Anyway, here are the nudies you asked for Gary. The amps are still a little grungy and haven't been cleaned up yet.

I was considering doing something similar with the Conn tone cabinet that I got with one of my amps. :) pretty nice furniture to just trash, IMO>

With dreams like that, I have to wonder what you are smoking before bed.

Those look pretty sweet, can't wait till they are ready for a listen.

I wonder if that's the same Kimball that's based out of Jasper, IN. Very near my hometown. I know they made pianos, but don't know about organs.

Very nice! The look like pretty good candidates for a recap.

Funny. I had the same dream but in my dream, those amps were in my listening room! Isn't that odd?!

Find another of the same model tone cabinet and you will have a nice set of powered speakers waiting for the right preamp :D What do you plan on doing with the speakers from the tone cabinet?

That would be fun wouldn't it. Not sure what it would sound like from a "audiophile" perspective but it would be fun to try it.

I still have to get that cabinet picked up. My first arrangement fell through and I really want to get that picked up by the weekend. The drivers will be sold most likely. They might make for a interesting open baffle drivers or Im sure guitar guys would eat them up.
