Pics of amps with BIG honkin' VU Meters

Here's my only piece left with analogs, rocking little amp too. Trying to find a matching pre-amp and tuner for the set, but no luck yet, at least not at a reasonable price.

A local thrift has the entire set priced incredibly high considering the quality. Would you like me to ask how low they would go?

Go for it, but the quality isn't all that bad, ain't high end but it ain't all that low either as long as you mind the torque curve.

A complete set would bring a higher price than individually I would think, I've seen the amps go as low as $10.00 in decent shape, the pre-amps usually run around $40 or so, haven't actually priced a tuner reliably.

Forgot the Yamaha P-2200 I used to own -- those peak meters just meant business! Photo doesn't come close to doing justice.

Akai PS-200M ... 400 wpc baby :)

This one isn't mine, but I know the guy that owns it (over the web anyway), big collector of all things vintage in Ontario... word up Fareed!!

Here's what the Akai PS-200M looks like lit up. Looks great but didn't sound it, quite grainey.

That is a fair statement for almost all of the Akai amplifiers... they wouldn't be mistaken for a "warm" sound that's for sure...

I like the sound my Akai's make...I like the harsher/crisper sound they make..but that could be just the type of music I prefer to listen to...

That PS200M looks nice though.. thanks for sharing the pic...

It's a beast of an amp. IIRC it weighs somewhere around 65lbs, a real backbreaker to move around.

Have you met Fareed in person... is that his amp? He sent me some pics of part of his collection, all I could say was "Holy crap"....not only does he have a lot of very very nice vintage pieces(of all the big vintage players), every piece is in mint, like new, condition blew me away when I saw the pics.....

No, I haven't met him but we have exchanged emails, in fact, I've sold him a few pieces. I have seen pics of his collection, quite impressive. Let's just say I'm not a big Fareed fan.
I bought my amp/preamp combo locally and used it for a time. Now, they reside with an extremely happy enthusiast in the Chicago area.
