I recently acquired a Pilot 402 that I pulled out of a console. I can't find any information on it. It works great, sounds awesome. but I cant find any references to it anywhere. is there a Pilot ref website? I don't even know if its worth anything.

Can't wait for the experts on this one, I have a friend who has a console that he said I could 'have', its got a 402 reciever in it. It looks like this

can I have some of that popcorn while we wait? so far the 402 is great. hardly any noise hiss and pretty powerful. dont tell danimal though.

For people that are having a hard time following the inside comments that Tom and I are posting, Tom and I were both going after this unit and I stepped off and let Tom make a play at the Pilot. I am just glad an AKer got it. The lady was basically giving it away and I didn't want this to turn into a bidding war with a fellow AKer that I have already done business with.

yeah it looks just like that. the console is a different model though. TT needs lubing. speakers are paper but sound nice at low levels. i gutted it immediately so I wouldn't get attached to it, (since my dad wasnt allowed to have it).

my brother took the cabinet and is now refinishing it and making it into a small bar. its nice cherry wood I guess.

mine also came with all the schematics and certificates, so if you need any help let me know

The Garrard RC-88 MK.II is a pretty decent record changer.

Where's WhiteSE? He's the resident Pilot nut.

That 402 looks like a very nice receiver.

I have a Pilot 602 which is very similar to the 402.
When I started looking for my first tube amp I had
to decide between Fisher and Pilot. I went with Pilot
because I really like the retro look of the front panel.

This one has been totally recapped awhile back and is
working very nicely. I currently have it hooked up to
my KLH 24's.

what do you mean the phono doesnt have a pre in it ? I had 2 402's that worked great with a 2.5mV carts...or you have low mV?

That is a great looking unit.

A 402 just sold on Ebay. The seller suggested that the only difference between the 402 and the 602 is the 402 has a tube rectifier. Don't know if that's a fact or not, just thought I toss it out there. john

Yes, thats correct, my 602 has a diode bridge and no rectifier tube.

I got a line on a 402. Original owners daughter called me pre estate sale. That 402 console unit pic looked very nice. Will post a pic if I can get it for a fair price.
