pilot C-1090 console score

hi. i ended up scoring a pilot s-190 console (high fidelity, stereophonic!) with an fa-690 preamp/tuner and an sa-232 amp (not sure which garrard turntable, though, looks like an 88/4 from the picture). i'll pick it up in about three weeks, and before i do i'd like to get the parts necessary to do a full recap and re-resistor of the amp.

i looked at the sa-232 schematic up on the pilot yahoo group in the files section, and while helpful i would rather see the "parts list" referenced (assuming it lists specifications for each part referenced from the schematic). might anyone have such a thing they could send to me? or post here for all to see?

i cross-posted this message on the pilotone yahoo list, so i apologise if people are reading it twice. if i can get an electronic version of the parts list (and if it has value in the way i am thinking it might), i'll post it here.

thanks,
looking forward to becoming a pilotee!

that is sweet!!!
I am another Pilot fan.
yeah, you, ejfud, doucanoe, redboy...i've read nearly every post i could over the past few weeks

i am happy; it was relatively cheap, and it'll make a perfect workshop stereo (a case at each end of the workshop with me working away in the middle!).

thats SA-232 is extremely highly regarded...! even for your living room!!:D

yep, and that's its ultimate location. however, i have a large-stereo-resistant wife, and the pioneer sa-7100 with the ar-2ax's and the ipod are as much as she can handle. i was thinking of sneaking it in while she's gone in england the week after i pick it up, and surprising her when she got home, but i think not.

so, it will be in the shop, rather than the silvertone i'd bought for that purpose. the silvertone i'll also redo, and then hopefully sell it...i've started on it, but found the pilot before i got very far. later on, once we get the living room sorted, i might take the console apart, make a nice bubinga (heh) case for the preamp, and a plinth for the amp, and bring it out with the klipsch heresy speakers she likes the look of. still, of course, with the ipod line in, but also with a turntable so i can play my lps. anything to make it attractive to her. she's still grumbling over the introduction to the house of my sansui 9090, and speakers larger ("and more ugly") than my ar-4xa's.

Hey madwing, nice looking pilot console!

Jack is right, that SA-232 recapped with new input connections and tubes is worthy of a center stage tube amp in your main system if you have the right speakers.

You might want to ponder that a bit.

I thought that I had the schematic and looked for Redboy but I couldn't find it. I believe that he might have one now.

If not, I'm sure someone at the Pilotone Yahoo group can hook you up with the info. you seek.

Hey madwing, nice looking pilot console!
thanks, i am really happy about it. not too big, either, just about 5.5' long and less than 3' high (compared to some of the moto, maggies, and other consoles).

i am already pondering. as my wife likes the heresys, i will begin that search after getting this one into my workshop. i'll use the stock jensens (which i guess they'll be) for now, upgrading any caps they have in the crossover as well.

thanks, rc. i have the schematic (from the pilotone group), it references a "parts list". there's a guy on vintage asylum i've written to who says he has one from sams for the amp, so hopefully i can pick that one up.

I'm officially jealous. I'm still hunting for the elusive 232.

Recap that amp and hook it up to the Heresys. You'll be set for a good while.

nate, i am sorry. i stumbled onto this during a craigslist search for vintage consoles. it's 180 miles from me, but not a problem, i am willing to drive :)

Heeey, what am I ? Chopped Liver ? LOL I'm a PILOT fan too!
Seriously Bill, CONGRATS on finding such a beautiful Pilot! Over the last two months, I've collected several Pilot items myself :

A PILOT Stereo 5A402 (with Tube Multiplex) from an old Pilot Console.

A PILOT FA-540 Mono Tube Tuner

A PILOT AA-920 Mono Amp

A PILOT PT1030D (AA-903B) Mono (EL 84) from Console

and last (but not least) a BEAUTIFUL (and seemingly rare) pair of
PILOT 172 Speakers. I can't wait to get all this stuff up to spec and running!

Enjoy your PILOT Bill. It's truly lovely!

Regards,
SixCats!

i saw you too, sixcats...but you seemed to be bumming about the faceplate of that tuner, so i didn't want to draw attention, you know? :) thanks for the encouragement...

btw, i think this is the c-1090, that's the console (also the c-1080) that comes up under sams photofacts 477-11, same as the fa-690...

hey! i got a 245A and an FA680 that WhiteSE's been trying to pry out of my hands for a month or two. pilot is great stuff, you've done well! congrats!

I assume 'more ugly than my AR 4xa' refers to condition -- I think they may be the nicest looking speaker ever made. The proportions are beautiful and the color of the grill and wood are wonderful.

Bob,

Nooooo! No No No, you had to go and remind me that I BROKE the face plate on my PILOT Console Amp! LOL. Oooh well. I must say, your PILOT thread inspired me (this afternoon) to get busy and "detail" the PILOT 5A402.
Man, I REALLY got "into it" even using De-oxit and Q-tips! Looks BEAUTIFUL!
Oooh btw Bob, did you happen to see the TWO Mono PILOT AA-920 up for bidding on a certain popular bidding site ? Darn, I sure could use a OPT's from one of those Amps for my AA-920!

Regards,
SixCats! aka Tom Patrick

That is a truly awesome find! That's the stuff my dreams are made of!!!!
Congratulations!

actually, my 4xa's are nice, though their original grill cloth is tatty. it's the 2ax's, which have beautiful cases but horrible grill cloth (black stuff from radioshack in the 70s). it's on my list of tasks to recloth them, and i think she'll be happier. i've already recapped them, so *i* am happier...:thmbsp:

sorry about that, tom. i am glad you got inspired, though! i saw those on ebay, and until i have mine in house and up and happy, other pilot items will just have to wait.
