Pink Floyd 2016 remasters

I have most of Pink Floyd's 2016 remasters. I noticed that they all have a 2016 sticker.

The album The Endless River was released in 2014. So I'm guess that there won't be a 2016 remaster, as there's no need for it.

But it would be nice, only so that it would have a 2016 sticker on it to match the rest of the studio albums.

DSOTM, WYWH, The Wall, Division Bell

Have all been remastered for Vinyl in the last 5 years and are not new masterings in 2016, just new packaging...with the sticker on the cover.

The older records (prior to 2016) that where out, have far better packaging and give you more for your money.

In fact they are even using the old metal mother and the only difference you see in the dead wax is the new bar code number scratched in latter. This now signifies it's a Sony/ Pink Floyd product.

Oh and The Endless River is a new record so that will not be a remaster at all for many many years.

BTW, I know what your trying to do, have a complete new set all matching with srink and stickers. That was my plan as well even though I had multiples of DSOTM, WYWH, The Wall, Division Bell prior to 2016. I then bought multiples of the so called new ones, then found I was being lied to, so I returned them all.

Bummer. I thought that we were getting True Remasters. Well at least I'll have a full set with 2016 labels. Lol.

I still have a few of my original PF albums from years ago.

And at least 5 different versions of DSOTM. And one sealed Original Master.

On a side note at this point all Division Bell's,The Endless River and Amused to Death have been plated and pressed at Quality Record Pressing.

I really like the 2014 release of The Wall. I've got Original UK pressing and have had the original Japanese pressing for ages and I really like the 2014 Wall.

The new remasters were done by James Guthrie, Joel Plante and Bernie Grundman....I picked up Obscured by Clouds the other day along with Meddle. Pretty good.

The Final Cut has always been one of those albums that NM- playback pressing has always eluded me.

Every legacy pressing I would buy had some flaw that would put it in the VG+ category ... eventually found a Vg++ (Ex) copy ... but it still was not a strong Vg++ ... just barely made the playback grade.

So I bought the new 2016 remaster and  ... oh come on :wtf: ... several tracks in ... pop .. pop .. pop .. pop through 4 or 5 rotations. What is it about my luck & the Final Cut (one of my top 10 favorite albums of all time ).

Anyway ... I did run the Vinyl through an RCM prior to play ... but I looked at it closely again under an LED light. Did see some kind of smudge .. used the fingernail covered with soft tea shirt trick and felt a spec give way .

Ran it through the RCM again ... needle hits the groove ... waited for the offending track &:banana::banana: dead quiet, pops are gone ... finally have my NM- play graded copy that's been eluding me.

Most new records, not all but most need a few plays to polish the groove and bring out their SQ, even MFSL states this on the inner sleeve.

Not saying you have but I feel a lot of people judge a record as soon as they open it, comparing to a old copy they played many times.

It's good you have your copy sounding good now.

A lot of great sleuthing on this matter by all involved.

So, if I were to head over to my local record shop to purchase some Pink Floyd and wanted to take advantage of these more recent releases, what should I put together as a list to look for?

Piper at the Gates of Dawn

I've never seen a clean legacy copy of Piper

The Division Bell

There never were that many Vinyl pressings of this album.

I'm going to opt for the
Quality Records Pressing.

I'm assuming most folks already have legacy or re-issue copies of

Solely based on quality of the release, not impression of the album. That part is on me.

My teen son started with DSotM and Wish You Were Here. This advice came from his friends and not me, but it makes sense. Although when first exploring with individual songs via Spotify, it was "Echoes" that drew him in. My wife has suggested he follow up with Animals.

To hell with all these remasters! I wanna know when are the 5 channel surround mixes of Meddle,Animals,Obscured by Clouds and the Wall coming out.:wtf:
