pink floyd animals

IMHO, "Animals" is the best Pink Floyd album. I'm glad it didn't get overplayed on the radio compared to DSOTM or WYWH, so it still sounds fresh and enjoyable to me.

Tom

I agree 100%. However, Wish You Were Here is my second favorite Pink Floyd album.

I think Momentary Lapse is an overlooked album as well, for what it's worth. A lot of great music there.

And Final Cut - I know most of the band disliked it, but I think it's fantastic. Very emotional.

The best digital version of "Animals," IMO, is the 2011 remastered CD. It is intense, claustrophobic, and detailed.

Original UK LP pressings are a delight. Original US LP pressings have a tad less detail.

Animals was conceived before WYWH, however Waters didn't think it was good enough to be a Floyd album. They only released it because they were contracted to put out another album and were a bit lazy and just threw it out there. I love the album. I was lucky enough to see the WYWH tour in 74, and had two hits of the alarm clock blotter acid to enhance the whole experiance. Animals is still my 3rd favorite Floyd album, after DSOTM, and WYWH.

"Wish You Were Here" remains my favorite. (It was also the favorite album of any of my mother who died last year at 75.) But I agree that "Meddle" is underrated. I've always liked it. But "Animals" to me is the one that sucks me in to really listen more closely than any. I was thinking just yesterday morning that it's been a while since I've listened to it and that I wanted to hear it. It strikes me as the darkest place Pink Floyd went for a theme. While I may like other albums better, I think "Animals" influenced my thinking and outlook more growing up.

I love it but it drives my dog's crazy so I don't play it as often as I'd like, maybe that's a good excuse to get a good set of cans :scratch2:

Put me down for Animals. The music and the lyrics blend perfectly to create a feeling of isolation/alienation that continues after the album is over. It really makes you think.

wish you were her would have to be my number 1.
Animals is my second. Kind of a dark album but still very good.
Either one is used to "blow the dust out of my speakers:D"

Meddle,Atom Heart Mother,Obscured By Clouds and Ummagumma are my favorite Floyd Lps. After Meddle Animals is my favorite.

Animals is my favorite Floyd release - so visceral, moody and dark.

Recently I procured an UK Harvest pressing - sounds magical.

Still have my sealed 1977 US copy as well :D

What is up with that dog barking; it always sounds like a real dog barking outside the house? !!!!

No matter the house, as long as the stereo system is mid-fi or above, there's the little dog standing outside of your listening room, "Rough, Rough, Rough".

Please don't tell me it's just me...Please :D
