Pink Floyd remaster

bagsy

LP spin dog
I keep hearing on a local fm station about a 12 or 14 box set of remastered Pink Floyd albums soon to be released.
Anyone else hear of this? Are they talking vinyl or CD's?
I've already got all the original Canadian vinyl releases and wonder if these remasters will stack up to the first pressings?:scratch2:

You should be able to find a thread around here about these being discussed at length. If I remember right they will be released on cd and vinyl.

There is an article in Record Collector Magazine with an interview with Nick Mason about it.
It was also mentioned a few months back.
No vinyl box set re-issue though. Just CD's.
A couple live shows from the mid 70's that are hybrids of the show, and studio material to enhance sound do to some poor recording quality.
It's hard to believe that they recorded themselves rarely.
I have had a few early live Floyd boots, and wasn't impressed. These were pre, or on the cusp of the release of DSOTM.
Maybe these hybrids will sound better.

:

I was wondering why my Library had ordered a big slew of old PF ..... looks like it is the newly remastered stuff!

In the Music Direct newsletter I received yesterday they listed as coming soon. Vinyl releases of The Wall, Wish You Were Here and DSOTM. Looks like a staggered release over the next 6 months. I put them all on pre-order.

Wish they would do the entire catalog, or a box set.

I still need a few 1st issues of originals, so since some of you won't need those anymore, I'll take them. :D

I, too, wish they'd release a vinyl box set. The new CD box set of their catalog makes for at least three that I know of. On the other hand, with upcoming mono and stereo vinyl box sets by the Beatles (if you believe the rumours), and recent vinyl box sets by Dylan (mono) and the Stones (early and late), I'm about boxed set to death.

According to Nick Mason, it sounded like they just wanted to put what they had left in the vaults out there while they were still around. He referenced Rick's death in those remarks- I think it was in one of the audio magazines like Stereophile. Alan Parsons did not do the remaster, and he seemed to say there would be no vinyl but the links here suggest otherwise.

All this talk about PF made me dig out Gilmours Live in Gdansk last night. Disc 2 has a fantastic sounding version of Astronomy Domine on it.

I plucked this CD set off the shelf about a month ago one Sunday afternoon when I was in one of those moods where I didn't know what to listen to. I ended up playing the set over and over for a couple of weeks and then I moved on to Pink Floyd's catalog for a couple pf weeks.

All good stuff but Live in Gdansk is surprisingly good and highly recommended.

Record Collector.

October 2011 Stereophile . . .

The October 2011 Stereophile has an article on the Pink Floyd remasters.

I must get some of that for me . . .

Cheers

That's where I read it!

I plan on buying the Wall and Dark Side sets. I'm more looking forward to The Wall, I think I've heard most of what will be on the Dark Side set, and already have the hybrid SACD. I have a Japanese HDCD of The Wall that sounds really good but really want SACD.

I'm interested in hearing some of the "new" stuff like.... "bonus material from the band's 1974 Wembley dates, including a 20-minute tour de force live rendition of 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond', as well as a unique recording of 'Wish You Were Here' featuring the legendary jazz violinist, Stephane Grappelli."

Most of the other stuff since DSOTM I have heard one too many times and I don't think the various formats or remasterings can change that.

Out tuesday 9/27/11. 14 CD box set. Amazon 179, Worst Buy 199. WB will have individual CDs for 9.99 each.

I'm down for Division Bell, maybe a couple others. Would love to see some SACD options, maybe some vinyl but I think I have most of what I want in that department.
