Pink Floyd remaster

The box itself is very well done, and contains a boatload of useless junk that I get a big kick out of. Yay, I now have Pink Floyd marbles! I guess I have to lose them to complete the metaphor. Should I use the coasters and ruin the resale? Yep.

Shine on you crazy diamond,
Well you wore out your welcome with random precision

I hope the Wish You Were Here immersion box comes with a bag of diamonds.

I really meant that I get a kick out of the junk in the box...its all fun. And useless. The packaging and the books inside are all very well done.

Quint - I feel the new remasters are bigger and more dynamic, and not bright at all. I don't have what you have as a reference. Seems like you can really crank these and they sound good. I noticed that in my Toyota truck with JBL sound/7 speakers on the drive home. 40 is usually really loud, and I had it on 50.

That would be sweet. I'm still bummed I missed out on the Big Lebowski 10th anniversary DVD in the bowling ball. I sure hope they release Meddle on vinyl. Feerless could just possibly be my favorite Floyd song.

Anyone heard the new Piper CD? I'll probably stand pat on my 40th anniversary 2CD (mono & stereo) from 2007, unless I hear something great about the new remaster.

Personally I'm waiting for the day that Momentary Lapse Of Reason comes out on remaster CD or SACD or better still 5.1DTS (although I think it would have to be DVD that point for the data).
I've never had an SACD, but I'd pick that one up in a heartbeat. Ah, whew, my Yamaha DVD player says "sure, I can play those". Thought I was in trouble for a second.:D

Are they still making DTS 5.1 Audio DVD's?

Ok, some initial basic observations between the SACD and remaster of Dark Side of the Moon. I should point out that I'm listening to the SACD in its 2-channel mix. Both of my SACD players are stereo only.

The remaster is a more aggressive mix. Instruments are a bit more forward, from what I can tell (audio memory being what it is). The room-reverb of what I've heard so far, is up in the mix as well. This is a double edged sword- it makes part of the mix sound 'bigger' but also, when things get complex, they start to get a bit muddy for my taste.

I've always thought the stereo SACD mix was perfect. I still think that. The remaster is, in my opinion, very good. I prefer the SACD mix..it has a tasteful subtlety that the remaster, to a small degree, lacks. It's a fun mix, though...and I'm happy to have it and there's nothing here I think is wrong, its just that I prefer the SACD mix. The differences in general are not night and day, though. I just think they crossed the line by a hair.

Listening was done with an EMM labs CDSA as the source for both.

Digging through my reports at work today, I see we have some sort of street dated 16 CD Pink Floyd box set at work (Costco) for $149.99.

I'm guessing it's the Discovery set, and will verify it tomorrow for any interested parties, as I haven't actually seen it yet.

remastered Meddle

I want to replace my current cd copy of Meddle.Never was happy with it. I've read the newest remaster isn' t better then the 90s version. I have forgotten when I bought my copy.It doesn't say anything about the year on the disc other than 1971 original recordings, etc. How do you indentify the 90s remaster?
BTW,the domestic Harvest lp I had sounded great.
