Pioneer ct-f1250- restoration help!

Hello everyone! This is my first post on the site and I hope you guy's with more knowledge can help me fix my problem.
I love the pioneer blue line equipment and I'm slowly building my rack with all the high end components, soo when a pioneer ctf 1250 appeared on the market with a good price I ran to buy it!


When it arrived I gave it a clean and looked out for problems. It didn't play no tape, nor fast forward/ rewind so I sent to my technician to look at the electronics (I only know how to address mechanical errors). Some time passed and he explained to me the problem.

He said (and I know by researching) that the machine has 2 motors, one for fast forward/ rewind and other for playback. The fast forward/ rewind motor works perfectly and the machine does that function, but he said the playback motor is dead and needs replacing.

I gave a look and around here and saw that it is possible to disassemble it and give it a good clean and it might work again. Does anyone have any tips or some kind of guide on how to do it? And if the motor is really dead does anyone have a replacement recommendations or some site where I can get a new one from another machine?

This thread, while applicable to the reel motor, gives you details that can be applied to other small motors.

I have never heard of the capstan motor failing-always the reel motor.

If it were my deck, I would open it up and look to see if the capstan motor is indeed dead. Insert a cassette and hit play-does motor pully even attempt to move? Is there a belt there?

Do you get proper voltage to motor connections on board?

X-RayTony did a very thorough rebuild of this model on his YT channel. He did fuss with the capstan motor, in one episode, might be something useful for your effort. Pioneer apparently used a unique servo motor, not something common and off the parts shelf. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

I haven't got much time lately but I was able to open the machine and read some of the manual so I have more info.

The take-up motor works perfectly, so I thank you for the link sent on the last post but it won't be of any help.

The problem now I can confirm is the Capstan DD motor, it doesn't move nor attempt to when I hit play and it does contain a belt that haven't perished.

As for the voltage to motor connections on board, I don't have the knowledge on how to perform such repair, like I said I only known mechanical stuff (like disassemble/reassemble, lubing parts and soldering).

If I could test motherboards and read the diagrams on the vintage manuals my life would be way easier for sure!

Find a 8-12 volt power source. A 6-8 cell battery holder fo AA batteries will work, for instance. With deck off, find motor leads where they meet the board. Desolder leads-noting how they soldered-for reassembly. Apply the voltage briefly to the connection-swap polarity too. Does motor run?

You can get a $10.00 multimeter and set for DC voltage, then turn deck on, insert a cassette in the well, and look for voltage with the meter. Even if you don’t know how to read the voltage, you will get meter movement-to rule in/out voltage to motor is/is not present.

Ok. I searched in the tool box and found my dad's multimeter, so that's a thing of the list.
I tried to find the power leads to the board like you said but it's a total spaghetti of wires! There are at least 10 different wires all connected to the board, and reading the manual didn't help figure it out the right one to test.

Sorry if I'm bothering you guy's with my problems, but i really want to get this unit working.

Right you are-sorry, I will have to admit I can’t identify the correct ones. Hope another member can assist.
 
Ok guys. I been analyzing more carefully the power to the motor and board and found something weird. All the wires of the motor are connect to this chip in the pic, so far so good, but looking at it underneath there is a weird wire connected to it that I can't see on the manual. Gonna try removing it to see what happens. Hope nothing explodes.

Don't!

The 1250 is a complex beast, only to be repaired by the experienced. Even if you succeed in fixing this motor issue you are bound to run into some other problem before you know it. An on top of this there is a significant chance that the heads are shot.
 
That is not a weird wire, it's a capacitor:rflmao:

I have to agree with Werner: this is not a starters project. All them Wise Bearded Man here have a history of ruining (until then) perfectly well repairable equipment. That appears somehow to be the only way to learn this stuff. So yes, go have at it, but no not on this one! Find some "burners" to get the hang of it, and bring this juwel to someone whom has been thru the phases.
 
that's a nice, collectible, complex deck -- best to hand it off to a good tech to get it running properly, it's worth the investment. These decks have a few known issues, it's quite likely something besides a dead motor.
