So I imported a PD-5000 from Japan and before anyone says anything, yes I understand the inherent risk of shipping these components and it was sold as untested anyways so I expected it would have issues. I have also read the CD player diagnosing thread and I'm still a bit stuck The package arrived fine and well protected, however the unit itself did not have any of the transport assembly installed. Initial power on saw all lights function, tray opens and closes no issues. But once closed the CD will not spin. I opened it up and found the lens had come loose so I gently reglued it with glue that does no off-gas. Still though, no spin. Looking closely it seems the laser pickup moves all the way forward, but does not move back AT ALL. I can hear a click from what I assume is a position sensor when it reaches the full back position, but nothing when moved forward. I also noted that it moves with absolutely no resistance whatsoever, just glides along. Not sure if it's supposed to or not. However I also noted that whenever I put a CD in and pressed play I could hear a gentle tick that sounds just like a motor trying to spin but that is stuck. Good plausibility it may be both, I'm not sure and I don't really know how to find out. The unit is in frankly flawless condition, way better than I expected and practically looks new inside and out, so I really want to do everything I can to get this working. I imagine I'm on the right track but if anyone has any ideas of how to test these theories please let me know.
