Pioneer PL-41 or PL-71

Got a PL-50, very similar to the PL-41, and love it. Not to mention that it looks plain cool.

Thank you Similost. That all makes sense. If your Teac has the MA-505 it is a pleasure to use. The adjustments are made so easy with it and it sounds so so good! I have one on my DD-40. It is a great table. The Pioneer is my first quality belt driven table. I have it playing Willy Nelson (Stardust) right now. I picked it because it will make wow and flutter obvious with the slow tunes. This is the first spin and it sounds fantastic. Even with the Grado Black it sounds good. Set up is more cumbersome but I am spoiled by the Micro. It is not that difficult and I agree, IT JUST PLAIN LOOKS COOL! The function mechanics (off, on and down) fell very substantial to me. I don’t anticipate any problem with them. This table is obviously very well made. I love it!:music: Here’s some picks.

I have one question, I could not lift the platter off. Is there something I should do on the underside to lift the platter?

Tap on the spindle with a block off wood as you are lifting up. They get stuck sometimes. I use the handle of my Discwasher brush.

Take off the belt, first. Lift off the speed control cover to get at it.

If it were my table, I would clean the old oil from the bearing well and take a look at the Delrin thrust plate. They are easily replaced, and should be if heavily worn. Take a look at the spindle bearing as well. Replace the oil, and also oil the motor at the belt pulley.

Funny, i used that very thing lol. I thought i was the only one. Works like a charm though.

Kcbluesman,

I am assuming the bering well is at the very bottom and accessed from under. I took the cap off and I am wondering if there is lythium grees in there. It seems thick for oil nad is white-ish.

Seems like I just used some automotive 30 weight oil for the thrust bearing assembly when I rebuilt mine. Use some sort of electric motor oil, sewing machine oil or 3 in 1 oil for the motor though. You'll need to completely take the spindle and bearing assembly apart and clean all the old oil out of it and check that bearing on the bottom.
