Hello friends, just wondering if anyone knows the value of the capacitor in the Pioneer PL6-A. My son and I recently found an excellent and rare example. It runs and sounds great but recently at start-up, the table was lagging and my instinct is that the cap needs to be replaced, but the value is uncertain. It's not a metal oil can, it looks like a smaller filter cap with one lead on each end. I've looked around and cannot find a value. The cap has 2G473 printed on it but no value or voltage ratings. Does anyone happen to know based on that number or experience with the table? Thank you!

Yeah, mine said the same as yours. Im surprised that your cap failed. I shouldnt be surprised but i guess iam because ive never heard of that capacitor failing in any PL-6A that ive seen on here or other places. I guess they can fail after 50+ years. Btw, amazing underrated table!! I refurbed mine around 5 years ago and still use it to this day!

Greetings! Mine just failed last night. I'm new to the electronic end of anything... I can clean, deox and lube like a champ but that's it. I'd like to try and replace my 2G473 cap.. but I have no idea where to get one. Would you share where you got yours please and do I just search for an 047? what type of Cap is the 2G473, please? (are they broken down by type or function? Thank you for your patience.. I'm trying to learn. J.
0.047 microfarad = "473" in modern notation, possibly the same here?
Is this a small tubular cap attached to some terminals next to the motor? If so it sounds like it may just be the arc suppressor cap on the switch. This one looks like a direct drop-in if pics of the underside of a PL6 are to be believed. Pics of what exactly you are dealing with would help here.

I was thinking it may be the noise suppressor cap on the switch just based on value but not familiar with this particular unit at all.
but that looks like the other pics. Assuming the prior post mentioning "047" is accurate, I'll go with it means 0.047 microfarad and say try one of those caps I linked to see if the problem is fixed. Based on physical size it can't be overly large in value, and 473 is modern marking standard for an 0.047 microfarad cap.
If you haven't, maybe pull the motor and re-oil the bearings while waiting on parts.

Have you checked the condition of your motor mounts?
When I received my PL6U, the platter won't spin because the motor/pulley wasn't aligned with the idler wheel due to perished motor mounts.

Its not the motor mounts. He replaced those. Its the cap for sure. The motor is well oiled in his PL-6A, mounts changed, the last thing it could be is that cap. I had a Nivico that took a similar cap and once that cap started failing it had the same problem his is exhibiting.Have you checked the condition of your motor mounts?

Thank you for your time and great info. I'll get a few of the first one you listed. Are they polarized or can they be installed either way?

I have replaced the motor mounts. It was playing fine in the afternoon then first spin in the evening speed was slow with lot's of push and pull. I thought the idler wheel may have somehow become the problem so I removed it, scuffed the edge as I've done before and had the same result. I would understand if it stopped working altogether but to have it simply slow down.. hmm. I'll get a few of your suggested and report back!
