If you are new to R2R it is EASY to make simple mistakes. I was away from analog R2R and TT for 25 years until Pop left me his vintage equipment. I wish I had paid more attenetion to what he was doing 40 years ago. I have done some really stupid things........ purchased used reel and finally realized the tape was on the reel backwards........funny now. Two years ago....grrrrr teaching a Old Dog a old trick....:D

Totally agreed - But how can you even try to test a tape deck without a tape mounted ?

Ohh - Don't think we tech's don't make mistakes :D We've just learned not to tell the public about them :)
