Pioneer SA-1290 stereo amplifier

Do you have any idea how to verify that or bring it out of protection mode if indeed that is the case?

Captains log, Star Date 2012. For 4 days and 4 nights I have lived on what I thought to be a planet full of highly intelligent advanced life forms. Turns out it’s just a rest home for retired Radio Shack workers. No wonder I couldn’t get a straight answer. But I did learn a thing or two from some other forms I was on today. Like what this guy said and the answer he got: And I quote.

I picked up a pioneer sa-1290 receiver at a yard sale. I plugged it in, hooked it up and it worked great, for about 3 minutes, then a relay clicked off and no sound. Originally two relays clicked when I turned it on, now only one does. Originally when I hit mute, a relay would click off, and pressed again, the relay would click on. It is that relay that is not clicking anymore.

His Answer:

The MUTE button (most likely) on this particular model has been known to cause "accidental" engaging of the switch underneath hence that would be the first to check/attend to.

In some instances (least likely), another possibility would be that the output amplifier may have failed. This would only be brought about if the Pioneer has been played with too high a volume setting, speaker wires touching each other or the speaker(s) has failed.
(Unquote)

Another thing I learned today is that sometimes one man’s trash is still just another man’s trash! That’s right, sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you don’t. So, I started to unhook it and throw it in the back of my truck to be recycled. But I thought, first open it up and just see if it has any fuses in it. Maybe I’ll get lucky if there is and just have to replace a fuse. Sure enough I found 3 fuses in it but they all looked fine. Nothing smelled burned or looked cracked or broken. So, I thought well, it’s just junk, the output thingy mabob must just be bad. But then I thought, why does this other guy have a mute button on his amp when I don’t. It’s the same thing. That kept sticking in my mind so I put the case back on and turned it around to look for a mute button but didn’t find one. Then, I found a little silver pin prick of a button. I could feel it with my finger. I hooked the speakers back up and went to get my glasses; I couldn’t read the writing above it. And sure enough it said Muting. I had never noticed it before. So, I turned it on and found a station. I pushed the mute button! HOLY FLIPPING CRAP!!! The dang thing came on! But I forgot to check the volume level and it was turned almost all the way up! It scared me so bad I jumped completely up off the floor. I looked like I was getting shot by a machinegun! I tripped backwards over the grand baby’s stroller and feel on the floor breaking my back in 17 places! I hit my life alert button and called for help. I kept yelling I’ve fallen and can’t get up but they couldn’t hear me. Mean while my house was vibrating like the space shuttle taking off. My wife came running out of the bedroom, plus, I woke everybody up! My God what kind of 380 watts of evil alien power is this! All I wanted was just a little radio from Wal-mart!

Cool! Glad you got it to make sound. You have to remember that nobody here seems to have one and, as you discovered, a free download of the manual is nowhere to be had. There's no substitute for experience with one. Now get in the regeneration chamber to heal those 17 fractures- you can listen to pleasant music while floating in the green goo!

Thanks Conrad, That sounds like good advice. My help was sick today so I had to load 26 hundred pounds of metal by hand all by myself despite my spin being snapped in 17 places! LOL I could use some R and R floating in green goo. Thank goodness I had help unloading it or I would truly be in bad shape tonight. Normally I only see about half that amount of metal in a single day, and that's on a good day, but today was the exception to the rule. But hey, some days you just get lucky and that's OK with me. Mo Money, Mo Money! I just wish I was younger. I have two nice pairs of house speakers I'm going to hook up to my new system tomorrow, a pair of T-110 Realistic's and a pair of NS-A1236 200 watt Yamaha's. but first I have to sling some Holy Water on the amplifier and perform an Exorcism! My wife says this amp is the devil's child! LOL And notice I didn't get electrocuted last night, which is odd but I might as well have been for all the trauma I received. LOL In fact being Electrocuted might have hurt less! Tomorrow when it is all hooked up and ready to go, I will have Egor, my son the hunch back, throw the switch. Well, because like I told you, I have this thing about being electrocuted! LOL My theory is. If it's going to happen, why should he be happy! LOL

OH MY WORD!!! I AM A LUCKY MAN! THANK YOU DEAR LORD! You guys got to get you one of these. I have been rock"n" out all evening. I swear you can hear this thing in the Deltra Quadren! I can't believe the clarity. I swear when I first turned it up I almost cried! I had forgotten just how good music can sound. And to think that there are systems out there better than this one just blows my mind! I just want to say thank you to those of you who were kind enough to post back and keep me going to try and figure out an answer. I almost threw this thing in the trash! LORD HAVE MERCY I LOVE IT!!!!!!
