Pioneer SA-8100 restoration

Hello

I'm servicing this unit. All components seems to be OEM. I found that the control board (
AWG-017) have some cut traces and some components under the board. They appear to be OEM

These are the installed capacitors

C1 1/25
C2 1/25
C11 22/10
C12 22/10
C15 100/6.3
C16 100/6.3
C17 4.7/25
C18 4.7/25

I will change them with wima MKS2 (if they fit) or Nichicon UKL. Out of curiosity...does anyone know if this modification corresponds to a service bulletin?

When I renovated mine (a few weeks ago), I did not see any cut traces, or blue Sanyo capacitors under that board. I don't know if it is the result of a factory production change order, but it doesn't look like it to me.

The parts on the solder side of OP's circuit card appear on the top side of mine....

Apart from the change to tantalum instead of aluminium (the Sanyos being "solid" alu caps btw) it looks the circuit card of mine (before refurbishment) carries the extra parts which are one the solder side of OP's amp.

According the picture my card is revision "R" and OP his revision is "O"

(if they started out with "A" there must have been quite an amount of revisions.....)

Wow! That was some overhaul!!! Should last forever now. I just picked one up for 300. Hopefully I didn’t pay to much. Needs some cleaning up I’m sure but works fine. I was looking at the owner’s manual on the in out for the preamp section and was wondering if a equalizer could be hooked up. From what I understand I don’t think it can, any thoughts on if that can be done? Thanks

Thank you!. Yes, It's possible to hook up an EQ. You can use PRE OUT - POWER IN rca, setting the "separation switch" to "separated" position. It should work.

Why not plug the equalizer into the Tape Monitor loop? Since any additional component adds a little more noise to the signal path, you don't want to amplify that noise if you can help it. If it's in the tape loop, as you attenuate the signal with the volume control, you would also be attenuating any noise/distortion added by the equalizer.
 
Hi Tom, if I hook up the eq to the tape monitor in and out hookups, will the equalizer work on all aspects of the amp? Tuner, phono, aux, etc.? Probably a stupid question! Thankyou Joe

Yes, that is another option, and it will add less noise :thumbsup:

Depending on what equalizer you have, you might not even lose a tape input. Many have a Tape Monitor provision built right in. I know the bigger Pioneer SG series do - most of the popular ADC Sound Shapers do too.
 
Hi everyone! I have a realistic 31-2000, not the 2000a. The 2000 is a much better and reliable build. The gain controls for left and right are awesome! I did hook it up to the preamp section of the pioneer and it works perfect. Between the dual bass and treble controls and the eq the possibilities are endless! Which is perfect because not all recording are created equal, as I’m sure you all know! I plan on playing with the tape input and see how that works I’ll tune in and give my thoughts Thankyou all for your input!!!! Best website on all the internet!!!
