Unless they're free or near it I'd pass. One of my friend has very similar pioneers and they're nothing special.

Thanks, I do that also, but these were just an ad I saw with no information. Weren't a particularly good deal, but I'm unfamiliar with Pioneer speakers so I thought someone might recognize them in case they were a set of the rarest of the rare, TOTL, highly sought after, best-I-ever-heard speakers

You don't know enough about Pioneer. Like Sony, I'd say that 85%, maybe 90%, of their speaker line is ho-hum at best... but, both brands some a few super amazing, rare, TOTL, expensive speakers. Obviously, the cheap rack system speakers that the OP was asking about do not fit this category, but there ARE some Pioneer speakers out there that will blow your mind and your wallet wide open!
Well that's not really a fair comparison considering the majority of Pioneer speakers are no where near that quality.

Definitely a fair comparison, since his example was a direct rebuttal to Toasted Almond's comment that Pioneer can be ruled out of the "rarest of the rare, TOTL, highly sought after, best-I-ever-heard speakers" category. I'd say with 100% certainty that those Pioneers qualify as "rarest of the rare, TOTL, highly sought after, best-I-ever-heard speakers".
In addition, some of the highest model HPM series speakers would also qualify, as would many of the other TAD series speakers.

That's the interesting part of this. Until I came to AK almost a year ago, I thought very little of Sony speakers based on what I've heard. But apparently there are excellent Sony speakers, and perhaps Pioneer also. There ought to be a thread or sticky somewhere about ho-hum brands where one model may stick out far above the others!!
I don't remember the model number of the highly regarded Sony's (but think I'd recognize their shape), and a model number of a very highly regarded Pioneer (assuming such exists....) would be another good piece of trivia to carry around.

You don't know enough about audio. I'm well aware that Pioneer has some followers, well aware that Pioneer makes TAD, the ultra-expensive branch of Pioneer (which probably hasn't SOLD a pair of speakers yet). Statement products don't mean a thing to me when the overwhelming bulk of the company's product offered for sale is junk.
They tried decent cabinets in the 60's/70's but still couldn't get a decent loudspeaker. They decided to offer rack systems with cardboard speakers that didn't sound much different from the well-CONSTRUCTED (but still bad-sounding) 60's/70's speakers.
Deal with it.

Ok, I think we all get it. You clearly have an unnatural love for Pioneer speakers.
Just don't go getting yourself stuck in any bass ports...
