Pioneer SX-1010 Relay Problem.

As MTF noted to you, it appears that you have something else pushing you into protection.

I think I fixed the issue. Shorting out speaker wire I believe. But we will see! I’m listening to it right now and it sounds incredible. I don’t know if I’m going to recap it. I probably will.
 
Why recap now? Well, I say don't recap, restore including the many transistors and some resistors that are out of spec, clean everything, replace output transistors (optional) or at least test and replace the heatsink thermal paste, all EL caps, clean all pots and switches, reflow solder, ... there are lists on this forum to give you a great start in selecting components.

The SX-1010 is pretty robust but can short and cause damage, so this is just thorough preventative maintenance to avoid an aging cap shorting and taking out lots of other parts or a transistor railing the outputs.

If this were a car you would be past the timing belt replacement interval, ... might last a long time and might not but it's an interference engine.

The 1010 has the 2sa726 and the 2sa1451 transistors. Both can cause problems like you are experiencing.

Could you help me with the BOM list? I tried finding one and uploading it, but it didn't work at all. Even though I believed that I have fixed my issue, I still want to restore this unit to ensure years more of trouble free listening!
 
I don’t want you to do anything your not comfortable with. If you were to recap the receiver when finding out the receiver is continuing its protection issue, then it might be wise to replace a few other known problematic components.

Sorry I didn’t mean recap. I meant full restoration. I fixed the protection problem. Ended up being speaker wire shorting out. But I do want to rebuild this thing. Any chance you could upload your BOM spreadsheet so I can download it and order the parts from mouser?
 
Go to the top of the Pioneer forum, click on Stickies, there is an SX-1010 list there.

Some of the guys like zeb and others answer this over and over, best to keep it in one place.
