Pioneer SX-1250: How to connect Klipsch R‑12SW Subwoofer?

Hello fellow "Audiokarma-ites"!

I'm a fairly new member of Audiokarma, and audiophile novice. I live in Forest Lake, Minnesota, and own various Marantz 22XX series stereos and various Pioneer SX series stereos. My current favorite is my SX-1250.

I switch between two sets of speakers in my two channel setup Klipsch Heresy II, and A/D/S L730. The Heresy II speakers are clearer and project a wider sound stage, but lack the bass the A/D/S speakers punch out. Both are wonderful speakers, but I want to help the Heresy's. This desire is where my troubles began...

The reason I'm here calling upon your collective wisdom is I cannot figure out how to connect my recently purchased Klipsch R12SW powered subwoofer to my cherished SX-1250.

The Equipment:
Pioneer SX-1250
Klipsch R-12SW powered subwoofer
2 - RCA interconnect Y-cables

The RCA Jacks:
SX-1250 - Pre Out (L, and R), and Power In (L, and R)
R-12SW - Line In (L/LFE, and R)

The Current Attempt/Connection:
"Transmitting signal" from SX-1250 - Pre Out (L, and R) to R-12SW - Line In (L/LFE) via RCA interconnect Y-cable
"Return signal" from R-12SW - Line In (R) to SX-1250 - Power In (L, and R) via RCA interconnect Y-cable

The Result:
Mono sound coming from my speakers. Balance left or right leaves sound playing in the opposite speaker.

The Plea for Help:
I acknowledge my ignorance. Hindsight tells me I should of done more research. In my head my mother's voice admonishes, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."

Likewise I hear my father telling me to, "Measure twice, cut once."

So, here I am despite the research and the proverbs.

Please, any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you, in advance.

You need to split the pre-amp signal one for the Main of SX1250 and another to the sub

Get a Y jack. Connect to Pre-out of SX-1250 (You would need to remove the metal jumpers)
Connect one pair RCA from Y jack to Main of SX-1250
Connect one pair of RCA to subwoofer (L&R), You would need a long RCA cable/Subwoofer cable. You would need a pair for Left and Right, most subcable is only for a single run

It's very likely you will need to construct a higher impedance filter to tap the signal from the main amp outputs to feed the amplifier on the powered sub. A resistor network connected to the B or C speaker outputs can handle this.

Looking at the Klipsch specifications, the R12SW range is 29 -120 Hz (can't expect much more from a 12" cone). A good speaker has a woofer at least that low, and uses the ample power of the SX-1250 to drive it. The tone and turnover controls are there to adjust however you like. Running a pair of HPM-150s with a woofer capable of 25 Hz or Jensen Montior Bs capable of 20 Hz pretty much eliminates the need for a sub, since they will out-perform it anyway.

Thank you for taking time to reply to my post. I need to clarify your instructions.

Connect to Pre-out of SX-1250 with Y-jack... Am I to connect the L/R end of the first Y-jack cable to the L/R of the Pre Out?
Connect to Main of SX-1250 with Y-jack... Am I to connect the L/R end of the second Y-jack cable to the L/R of the Power In?
Connect one pair of RCA to subwoofer (L&R)... I have, listed above, two Y-jacks connected to the receiver, which plug into the subwoofer?

Sorry I'm so confused.

I just run mine off of any tape out to L&R in, you don't need a pre-amped signal, the plate amp has a pre-amp built in, I have the exact same sub. Set the crossover to 80 and the level where you like it.

Your missing out on the volume control, using tape out, forces you to adjust the subs volume every time you change the volume on the amplifier.

Thank you to all who have taken time to provide advice.

Here is where I am today, using qguy's advice, and my interpretation of the advice with the equipment I have.

I used two "male-end-only" Y-cables.

I plugged the double end of the first Y-cable into the SX-1250 Pre Out "L" and Power In "L", and then I plugged the single end into the subwoofer's "L/LFE".

I connected the double end of the second Y-cable into the SX-1250 Pre Out "R" and Power in "R", and then I plugged the single end into the subwoofer's "R".

I now have stereo sound playing from my SX-1250! I confirmed by moving the balance all the way to the left and all the way to the right with no sound playing from the deselected speaker, The volume increases on the subwoofer when I increase the stereo volume.

Yay! I think...

So I seem to have everything working, but I still fear this good fortune could be misleading. Could this connection be working, but still not correctly set up, and worse yet could this be causing damage to my stereo or subwoofer?

foo.kamikaze, I have the exact same system and components as you have. Did this wiring configuration work out for you without problems? So if I understand this correctly you will end up using 2 Y jacks at the pre amp section after removing jumpers and then 2 separate sub woofer cables to sub woofer?

Hi electrocuted!

Still morning here in the Central Time Zone, and as promised in my message to you last night I can confirm that what I posted is correct. Works as it should. If you have more questions, please ask. Thank you!
