Pioneer SX-650 Damaged Corner.. Repairable?

Hi,
I purchase a really nice Pioneer SX-650. It is in excellent working condition and the case was in very good condition with sharp corners, minor peeling and scratches. When it arrived it had shipping damage to the lower front right corner, It is banged up pretty bad. Now the whole unit looks terrible. My question is there a way to repair the corner? Maybe I should just hold out for another case? Any ideas?

One could replace the walnut block but more than likely it will stand out against the original. So I'd replace both. The other issue is Pioneer cases of that era typically have peeling vinyl veneer. I've removed the vinyl and re-veneered with real walnut veneer. Looks much better. I work with wood so it wasn't much of a thing but could be a thing for someone that doesn't.

Yea the unit was not packed very well. It was not wrapped or protected with bubble wrap or any king of cushion, just heavy paper, Also the unit was way to heavy for the box the seller used. I am surprised that was all that was damaged.

Yea not sure how to do that. Guess I will buy another unit with a better cabinet and switch them.

Sorry to hear of another jackass packing job. I try to be very thorough but then you get some JA on the other end trying to scam the seller. Yes you ADS tweeter buyer.

Hopefully you've been reimbursed for the damage or the seller said no thanks don't return, just keep it.
 
Would be simple enough to make new pieces for both sides. That way the block and both sides will match. All you need is a friend with a table saw and drill.

Minor damage easily repaired by someone with woodworking skillset. More important than cosmetics.. Does the Pioneer work ?

I agree, easy fix. I'd use walnut and try a lighter stain like a Provencial or Golden Oak to try and approx the color of the laminate on the case. Best way would be new walnut veneer on the case and then stain everything the same color.
 
That corner damage may just be cosmetic but taking a hit like that may have bent the frame and damaged internal components. Does it power on and function correctly is the bigger question as @avionic put it?

Although @sawdust has mentioned he's retired from making cabinets he does say it's easy to make those end caps. Maybe someone will drop by with a stick of walnut and a saw and cut you a couple pieces.

If you pull the lid you will see the corners attached with screws. Take em to a cabinet/furniture shop and see about getting a couple if you don't know anyone with a saw.

I looked through my pile and found 2 face blocks one has a stain finish one doesn't PM me if that is what your looking for, I have sent several dozens to AK members for free over the years it make good use out of my scrap Walnut.

IMG_20220923_091026_960x1280.jpg IMG_20220923_091026_960x1280.jpg I made two new walnut pieces for a 434 last week, easy on a table saw. The front panel is removed very simply, and using the old pieces you predrill each side for installation.
You make BOTH so that any stain deviation is a consistent look. As much fun it is to make some of these wood projects, veneering a case doesn’t make sure that the finishes match, after all it will be different woods. Same goes for making a new case! The natural walnut is difficult to match the fake vinyl or old wood veneer, but it isn't a drastic difference, simply two matching trim pieces!
