Pioneer SX-727 Display Dimming

Hi, I recently purchased an SX-727 and the illumination across all of the dial lights is uniformly dimmer than (about half the brightness of) what was portrayed in the photos in the listing. The seller swears that the photos reflect the receiver’s condition immediately before he packed it up to ship it to me. My question is whether there could be a (non-obvious) function/setting that dims the entire display? Or might someone else have a sense for how all (14?) of the lights could have simultaneously experienced the same degree of dimming? Thank you so much for any thoughts here.

No. See the service manual. Maybe the bulbs have been replaced with LED lamps. Open it. There are six lamps in total, including the meter. Photos vary in brightness depending on lighting conditions so that could cause the dimness too.
 
Someone might have did that to it . So take off the top case and have a look, the lights should shine brightly thru the vent holes . Your not over driving the SX 727? with wrong or to big speakers ?
 
they all have a common power source and are all in parallel and voltage should be @ 7.5 vac.except the dial pointer that has a dropping resistor as its bulb is a 6 volt job.the rest are 8 v incandescents. voltages measured to ground.pick one, any one except the dial pointer. if its low work it back to the fuse looking for voltage drops. its important to note its a transformer tap that is UN regulated. not knowing what model you have if its a multi voltage model and where you are in the world as far as mains supply voltage are things to consider. low mains voltage or a failing wall outlet can get you the same thing
